Moby Wraps, when do you put it on?

So I received one as a baby shower gift and am super excited to use it once baby is here, but I never really thought about when you put it on. I'm due December 10th, so it'll be super cold no matter how long we wait to take her out and about. How do you go about putting on the wrap in public? For instance, do you put it on in the car, put her in it and wrap your coat around yourself AND baby? Do you take the car seat into the building, put wrap and baby on then have someone (if available?!) take the seat back to the car? I'm just wondering what others have done. It never crossed my mind until now!

Re: Moby Wraps, when do you put it on?

  • Since the Moby is stretchy and you can slip baby in and out, I tie it on before I leave the house.  When we get wherever we're going, put baby in and either have a big jacket over us both or hold a blanket over baby.

  • It doesn't get cold here in Phoenix, so I never really dealt with the cold-factor of using the Moby, but I did frequently put on the Moby at home if I knew I was going to use it as soon as we got to the store/errand just to save myself the hassle of doing it in the parking lot. It always worked out fine to do so, but I would wrap it extra tight when putting it on ahead of time just because it always seemed to loosen just a bit in the car for some reason - I assume just from me sitting on it.
  • I always would put it on before I left the house so that I didn't have to deal with putting it on in the parking lot and risking it touching the ground. I plan on doing the same this time around and like pp said, eiher covering the baby with my coat as well, or  use her blanket to cover her until we get inside.

  • I have the K'Tan (similar to a Moby) and I was thinking I'd just put it on before I left the house and put the baby in it when we got to the store/wherever.  Then just have either my coat around both of us or a blanket for the baby

Yep, this is what I did.  I don't like to have it touch the ground if I can help it, and it's so long it almost has to.

  • When LO was in that small window (just a few weeks) that he really liked to be worn, I put the Moby on when I woke up and I wore it all day.  I just popped him in and out of it when needed.  If you are driving somewhere, you definitely want to put it on before you get in the car.  That way, you can just get LO out of the car seat and slip him right into the Moby.  Putting it on is kind of a pain so you really want to do that as few times as possible each day.

  • Thanks for all the help ladies! Putting it on at home never even crossed my mind...woops! And I didn't even realize how long it is! Just pulled it out of the package after reading this!

    THIS!

  • I would put mine on at home before I left the house while baby was happy in her crib or seat. Then when I got to the store ect, I would just get her out of the car and pop her in. Putting a moby on in a hurry or in the car is not easy.

  • i found the moby to be a hassle with putting on/off. if you do it in the parking lot it drags on the ground and gets dirty. so yeah, i would put it on at home first, but it just seemed a little ridiculous to me to have to wear the wrap all day just to put lo in it every once in a while. i actually ended up getting rid of it and got a k'tan instead. its like the moby, but easier to put on. so i can just quickly throw it on when i get to the store. but no matter what style of carrier you use, babywearing rocks! just find one that you and lo like :)
