my baby will be 1 on Wednesday.
I have breastfed her since day 1. I returned wot work when she was 3 months old, and pumped until she was 10.5 months old. Around 10 months, I was having a problem pumping, and probably developed thrush through a cracked nipple that just wasn't healing because of pumping. I weaned from the pump at 10.5 months, but continued to nurse her whenever we were together.
I starting sending formula to daycare - powder, RTF, Similac, Enfamil - and they offered it in bottles, sippy cups, and straw cups - cold, warm - didn't matter - she refused formula and waited until we were together again. Then around 2-3 weeks ago, I stopped with the formula and started sending whole milk. Again - she refused it in any way, shape, form - all the cups and temperatures.
Formula or cow's milk - she wouldn't even bring it to her mouth to see that it wasn't breastmilk - it was very weird. She had always taken breastmilk from bottles.
Well, week after week, I've been tossing the formula or milk I've been sending to daycare, and I've been nursing her 3x a day during the week, and 4-5x a day on weekends.
On Wednesday, she drank 3 oz of whole milk at daycare. But, to tell you the truth, the teachers hand her the bottle and they don't stand over her since she usually doesn't take it and could hold it herself. They came back and it was empty and she was all smile.
We think she probably gave it to the baby sitting next to her - lol! Because she refused it for the rest of the week!
So, it's a few days short, but I'm calling it - I successfully breastfed for a year. And I have no clue when we'll stop - since she won't drink milk. I was unable to do this with my first, but did EP for 6 months.
I am proud of what I have been able to do for my girls ![]()
ETA: I'm thankful for this board - i popped in and out over the months and always found great support. Thank you!
Re: ok, i'm gonna call it :)
Congrats! I'm hoping to be calling it as well in a month or so!
