Trying to get pregnant with higher FSH levels

I am looking for a little advice from the group of ladies that over 35 and prego~ I am trying to get pregnant with my first and I am young 36, had a M/C at 8.5 weeks in March 2011 and I have been on clomid since June at 100mg. They tested my fsh levels the month after my M/C and they came back at 15.2 and I am wondering if their are any ladies out there who have got pregnant with higher fsh levels and being on clomid? Also they test my progesterone levels last month and they came back at 39.2. Thank you for your help :)

Yes, labs in siggy. Are you seeing an RE I hope? Generally if you are DOR, the recommendation would be IVF, or IUI at a minimum. Have you had any other work up? Has your DH had a SA?

I had a baby when I was 35 and he was conceived really easily.  However, while trying for baby #2, we were finding that I was having a hard time staying pregnant -- I had 3 early miscarriages.  I finally went in and got checked out at the age of 38 and discovered that my FSH level was 14.   I started going to a fertility doctor.  We tried a round of IUI with meds (it was unsuccessful as I only produced 3 eggs -- and only one was viable) and a round of IVF (with donor eggs) and that also was unsuccessful.  We had another round of IVF (with donor eggs) scheduled for this summer, but while waiting for this round, I unexpectedly got pregnant on my own.  I'll be 32 weeks pregnant as of tomorrow and everything is looking good.  BTW when I turned 40, my FSH level was at 19....

FYI -- as soon as I found out I was pregnant I went into the fertility doctor and she put me on progesterone which I took for the entire first trimester (about 13 weeks).  I'm not sure if that was the trick that kept me pregnant (and I don't even recall if my progesterone levels were low in the first place), but I'm just glad that everything worked out.  Progesterone was the only thing I took with this pregnancy and it has seemed to work.

Good luck to you.  Don't give up hope...  I'm 40 and pregnant with a high FSH level. It can and will happen for you!

Hi, Just wanted to give you a little more hope.  I am 39 right now.  At 24 I got pregnant (without trying) but had a misscarriage at 6 weeks.  I got prenant with my son at 26 first try (and everything went well).  This time we tried for 8 months.  In the 8th month I got my FSH checked and it was 17.1 That very month my doctor told me I had only a 15% chance of getting pregnant on my own.  That was the very month I conceived.  I wasn't on clomid or anything just on my first month of progesterone suppositories that my doctor had me on to lengthen my short cycles.  Good luck with everything!!  I really did not think it would happen for me but it did!

Decreased Ovarian Reserve/High FSH does not discriminate against age unfortunately.  I hope you are seeing a RE!!!  If not you definitely need to go!!  IMHO, you have been trying to conceive for more than 3 months and are 35 or older you should seek a consult from a fertility specialist.   I do not believe Clomid gives you a better chance of conception with a high FSH. You would have an equal chance doing a natural cycle.   Also you had an elevated FSH on CD3 I assume?  What was your Estradiol on the same day?  Alot of people forget to look at the Estradiol level in conjunction with the FSH.  Your FSH level is not "real" unless the Estradiol level is <20.  Your FSH level changes EVERY cycle.  You had this tested after your M/C? Was this after a normal period post M/C?

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Something that would help is to put your information in your signature.  The ladies on this board and especially on TTC 35+ are really knowledgeable and happy to help with "newbie" type questions.

Unfortunately, I don't have much advice about FSH levels so I won't be much help with this answer.  Don't hesitate to XP over at TTC35+ if you haven't already.  Some of the posters over there are more knowledgeable than my regular OB about IF.

You might consider a 2nd opinion. In 2007 I had an RE tell me that we have unexplained infertility and she only recommends IVF.  I didn't want to do IVF so I blew it off, then decided to revisit the issue this year after turning 36.  I went to another specialist and was told that the problem is my age (I have not used birth control since I was 28 so I didn't buy that).  She said that my only option is IVF.  I asked why she wouldn't try IUI and she had a very long and complicated answer.  I decided to go for a 3rd opinion and had them transfer all of my testing records.  The new RE looked at them and said that the only problem is that my LH & FSH are out of balance which creates a mucus that blocks the sperm from passing the cervix.  On the next cycle we did IUI and I am now 10 weeks pregnant. Get a 2nd or 3rd opinion!
