Let's talk about bumpers....

I saw the post last week about not using bumpers....

Are you still going to use a bumper?  What about breathable bumpers?

I'm still up in the air, but if I decide to use one, I think it will be the breathable bumper.

Re: Let's talk about bumpers....

  • I'm not using any type of bumper.

  • I used a bumper with DD, but probably don't with this one.  Chances are low it'll be an issue, but there is a risk.  AAP just came out last week and said they're unsafe.  I don't know if they still don't like breathable ones.  My DD didn't roll much, so she never had an issue with getting her arms or legs through the slats.  I guess I'll just wait and see with this one.  I did swaddle her highly from birth (early April) until.... maybe July.

  • I used a breathable one with DD but I probably will not use anything with this one, unless we find a need - for DD, by the time she was moving and it would be useful, she was able to push it up or down and still weasel her arm or legs or feet out, so it really didn't make a difference. We took it out when she was about 7 or 8 months and just never put it back in.

  • I probably won't until the baby gets arms or legs stuck. The AAP said no to breathable ones as well because of a strangulation risk of the strings.

We have the breathable ones on our crib and it velcros to itself. No strings.

I found the breathable ones at a garage sale for a dollar and they are in like new condition. I put them on to see what they look like but will be most likely taking them off until our LO can move. Especially since no bumpers makes it easier for me to see when they are sleeping.

  • No Bumpers for me... At least not when this one is little, I have a feeling we will need them later...

  • With DS we didn't use bumpers until he could roll and I had to go in there to pull limbs back out from the slats. Then we used breathable ones with no strings (velcro to themselves like PP said). Planning to do the same this time.

  • We used them with L after he could roll safely.  We will most likely do the same for #2.

  • I'm not going to use a bumper for the first 4 months at least.  I'll probably do a breathable bumper once the baby gets a little older in order to prevent them from getting a leg or arm caught between the rails.
  • No bumpers, I don't see a use at a young age anyway.  If I feel I need bumpers later when the baby is older to keep pacifier or limbs in I will purchase it, but not until much older.

  • We used a regular bumper until DS could move around, then switched to a breathable bumper.  We will do the same with this one.

  • We bought a bedding set that comes with a bumper, but we are not planning to use it at all since it is not breathable.

  • We won't be using bumpers while the baby is young.

Since we aren't buying a bumper, I am not sure if we would even use one once the child is older.

  • On the fence with a breathable. I did register for one to potentially use once Reese is old enough to move around. The ones I registered for do not have ties.

    Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!

  • the breathable bumpers did nothing for us and we never had a problem with LO sticking his arms/legs through either.
  • We won't be using any.

We never did bumpers with DD and won't be doing them with this baby either.  Not worth the risk IMO.
This. And I never really got the point of them.

  • I guess we will wait to see if we actually need one and if we do we will get the breathable velcro one.
