So today we got the dreaded "what do you want for Christmas" question for the first time this year from dh's parents... I knew this question was coming soon. I don't know what to tell people. I already figured I would ask for the expensive diaper bag I want from Petunia Pickle Bottom but cant justify buying when there are cheaper options, and stuff for our babies. I don't really want anything for me except a healthy baby. Now, I don't know what to say... I really want to ask to cash for our IVF procedure and drugs, but I can't ask for that. Anyone else struggling with this? How did/will you respond?
TTC #1 since October 2008. Dealing with MFI.
IVF #1 w ICSI in July 2010 = BFN
IVF #2.1 in Oct 2010 converted to IUI = BFN
IVF #2.2 w ICSI in Dec 2010 = BFN
Met with new RE in new city on 1/31/11.
IVF #3 w ICSI in April 2011. HPT on 5/9 = BFP!
Beta #1 on 5/10 (10dp5dt) = 99.4. Beta #2 on 5/12 = 284. First u/s on 5/26. = Fraternal TWINS!
Twin boys born & lost on 8/16/11 at 18w1d due to PPROM & preterm labor.
IVF #4.1 in Jan 2012 converted to IUI on 1/7/12 = BFN
IVF #4.2 w ICSI in Feb 2012. Lupron on 2/10. Stims on 2/18. ER on 2/29- 7R,6F
ET scheduled for 3/5/12- nothing to transfer :(
Dh seeing new MFI uro & Dh starting meds- June 2012.
IVF #5 in Dec 2012 = BFFN.
IVF #6 planned for Spring 2013. Praying for our take home baby/ies.

    we haven't gotten the gift question yet but the in laws already want to know if we are going to come see them (we'd planned on staying home this year since I would have been a month away from delivery).  I really just don't care... don't want to celebrate, don't want to do anything.  Getting or giving gifts is the last thing I  care about.  Although we'll probably suck it up and ask for cash... IVF is expensive and if they give us cash towards it we can get pregnant again sooner.  That's the only thing I really want right now.

    I said uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh whatever. Both families knew that I didn't care about gifts last year. Both families got me some memorial stuff.

    Maybe you can just casually bring up how expensive IVF is and they will offer some money as your present. Maybe..... Or have DH tell them that's what you want

    I told DH's mom that I did not want to celebrate this year and we are saving all our money for FET.  I told her I wish they had gift certificates for ultra sounds.  I think she thought I was kidding.

    Sep. 2011 = Surprise BFP = C/P
    Feb. 2012 = sFET #1 = BFN
    Feb.2012 = Hail Mary IUI #4 = BFN
    April/May 2012 = FET #2 w/our last two embies = BFP (Please let this be it!)

    Our little miracle baby is a boy. :)

    Baby Boy Owen and Baby Girl Avery were born too early on Feb. 13, 2011 due to a pedunculated fibroid, incompetent cervix and suspected placental abruption.

    My parents have already offered to give us money to use toward IVF/meds, so I am going to tell them not to get us anything. Last year, I didn't really feel like I wanted much, except to hibernate until the holidays were over.
    Mom to Eliott Alexander, born sleeping at 37 weeks on 8/13/10. Most of us only dream of angels - I held one in my arms.

    If they don't go for this, maybe ask for giftcards to places that you shop at regularly for essentials (e.g., Target, grocery store) and you can save the money you normally use for essentials for IVF.
