angel care monitor is a PITA!

so in my attempts to finish most of every left in the nursery, i decided to make the crib up and set up the monitor....well did not know that the angel care monitor was going to be such a pain in the a$$. you need a plank of wood to put on top of the springs for the sensor pad to sit which clearly i don't have laying around my house! add another thing to my never ending honey do list for DH...anyone have this system and know if 1) you really don't need the wood, 2) you don't have to use the sensor thing right?

  • We used left over pieces of laminate flooring we had laying around.  The sensor should be on something firm under the mattress, not the springs.  You don't have to use the sensor, but then it defeats the purpose of the monitor and is basically a really expensive sound monitor.

that is a good idea...does the piece need to be the entire size of the crib? or just the sensor pad ?

It just needs to be the size, or a little larger, than the sensor pad.

  • We snapped 2 remnant pieces together and put it face down in the crib so it won't unlock with pressure.  It is just slightly wider and taller than the sensor.

  • Yes, you really do need the board.  No, it doesn't have to be the same size as the crib.  Masonite is inexpensive and works great.  I believe they tell you the dimensions it needs to be in the manual.

If you are smart, you will get it nearly as wide as the crib or trying to line up board, sensor pad and mattress every time you change the sheets will be difficult.

You can use it without the sensor pad and we thought it was a really good monitor. It doesn't make sense to me to go to the trouble of getting that particular monitor and then get overwhelmed by needing to make a quick trip to literally any hardware store.

Unexpected things come up when you're a parent.  That's just the way it is.

  •  It really wasn't that big of a deal. We went to Lowes with the measurements of our crib and had them cut a piece of thin plywood to that size and then went home. I think it cost us like 8 bucks. Not a big deal and the monitor worked like a charm for DS and I will be using it religiously with DD.

  • They are building a house next door and one night we walked by and there was a clean piece of fiber board. We took that! Hehe! Worked perfect!
