So I started spotting yesterday, some red, some brown.
I called the on-call dr, and it happened to actually be MY dr. I asked her that I wanted to try vaginal progesterone because I had read that the oral wasn't as effective. I know there's no "proof" of this, but still.
So she put prescribed me Crinone, and I am doing it two times a day. Unfortunatley, it's labeled as a "fertility drug" and insurance does not cover it. So for one week's worth, it cost $200. Anything for this baby though.
Just was wondering if anyone else was on it? Side effects? Liked it? Didn't?
TIA!
Re: Anyone else on Crinone 8%?
I've taken it. My insurance was willing to cover it, although with the highest co-pay.
I didn't really have side effects although I will warn you it builds up in there and gets chunky and gross. You'll also leak, so invest in pantyliners (like, a lot of them). Whatever works, though, IMO.
I'm on it. My insurance covered it though... ($30 copay for 2 boxes of it)
Anyway,
I don't like the fact that it makes everything juicier down there which can cause panic. There is a side effect of "build up". This might be TMI but there is this white balled up crap that comes out of there on a regular basis. it's kind of nasty.
I'm only on it one time a day and it seems to be doing a great job.
Good luck!

Is there anyway they can just give you a script for a generic progesterone suppository?
I can't remember what dose I was on, I think it was either 200mg or 400mg once a day and since it had to be compounded at the pharmacy it wasn't covered under insurance but it was around $60 for a month supply.
My insurance wouldn't cover it either. So, my doc wrote me an Rx for compound progesterone suppositories. Same stuff basically only a waxy suppository instead of the gel. It was only $45 for a month's worth. It may be worth asking your doctor about.

This may seem like a stupid question, but how do you go about 'cleaning it out'? With like Q-tip? Fingers?

Couldn't have put it better myself. Definitely don't get the ultra-thin panty liners- I found that I would leak through them. I felt like I should have bought stock in panty liners when I was on crinone. Although I was nervous about stopping it at the end of the first trimester, I wasn't sad about constantly worrying about the state of my panties.

Wish I had known about the "orange to brown" part before freaking out this morning. I have a few more weeks of it then I'm done.
To the OP-check and see if your doc can give you some samples, mine gave me 2 2 weeks worth.
As strange as it may sound you just use your finger in the shower and gently sweep some out. It can get a bit "clogged"

I used it from BFP to 11 weeks. I had zero side effects, just some leaking and quite a few pairs of ruined panties. I didn't enjoy it, but like you said, I would do anything for LO.
My insurance only paid about 20% but it still only cost me about $30 per month for generic. I would see if your doctor would be willing to switch you once you need a refill.
I would suggest laying down for awhile after your non-bedtime dose to minimize the leaking, which seemed to me to be the worst right after inserting it. I know some other PgALers said even panty liners didn't fully prevent the messes.
I hope you have good luck with it and your spotting stops in no time!

Yeah, the liners with a plastic back worked better than the super-thin flexible (i.e. more comfortable) ones. And [warning, totally disgusting] I found the Crinone would kind of get regurgitated at the same time each afternoon. So for weeks at around 2:30pm I'd have a small heart attack and run to the bathroom only to find a pile of Crinone in my undies. Anyway, don't panic. It's all part of the process
.

I was put on it, as soon as my bloodwork confirmed I was pregnant again (I was also on it for the first pregnancy, but that pregnancy was troubled from the get-go and Crinone would not have saved it). I stayed on it, twice a day, for 13 weeks and tapered off in week 14. My insurance didn't cover it, so it was $173 for a two-week supply (ADVICE: Pharma reps often drop off coupons at oby/gyn's offices for $30 off per scrip--ask your doctor about these or google "Crinone" and contact the pharma company directly and they will mail you two coupons at a time).
The only side effects I had, more with the first pregnancy that this one, was salmon-colored discharge and the aforementioned "chunky stuff" that required a twice-weekly, uh, clean-out. My fiancee and I were under a "no sex" edict for the first trimester, so I couldn't tell you about pain during boinking.
Crinone isn't cheap, but I would like to think it helped me get through the first trimester, and it psychologically helped in that every day I was "doing an action" to help preserve my pregnancy--so much of this is out of our control, that any little thing I could do to keep the baby percolating made me feel that much better.
I hope the Crinone works for you too!!!

I was on it at night only from 7 weeks to 12 weeks. My insurance didn't cover it, but my doctor gave me 2 weeks worth of samples. For the remaining 3 weeks, it was very pricey - about $120 or $130 - I got it by the mail at somewhat of a discount over what it would have cost from my normal pharmacy.
I guess I am the odd one out, but I didn't really have any serious problems with discharge at all. I wore a pad just to be safe but never really needed to until close to the last week I took it. There was some discharge then, but for the most part I had little problems with that. My nausea and boob pain seemed to get worse when I started taking it, but that could have just been normal pregnancy symptoms, I don't really know.
Good luck!
I've never been on Crinone before, but I have been on both prometrium and endometrin. Both can be prescribed as vaginal suppositories. You do get the increased discharge and can get build up, but I have heard that it is less than with Crinone. Also, it might be coded differently so that it would be covered by insurance.
Best of luck to you!
