Recommend a bday gift for 4 y/o girl

DS has a bday party to attend for a PS classmate next weekend. She is turning 4, and having her party at a kids' cooking class place. I have no idea what 4 yr old girls play with, any suggestions? Perhaps something cooking related, given the theme? I'm looking at spending $30-50 since that's about the range of what he received for his bday from classmates. Thanks!

    Okay, mind you I normally spend more like $10-25, which is the norm here but here are some ideas.  I also often ask the teacher what the kid is into so I can gear the gift towards his/her interests:

    *  Barbie dolls

    *  princess dolls

    *   dress up clothes

    *  play food -- Melissa & Doug have some fabulous sets along those lines like a pizza set, a wedding/special occasion multi-tier cake set, cookies, stir fry, grilling, etc.  That might be a good gift given the theme.

    *   books

    *  cash register
