My review of Kinderwagon Tandem UMBRELLA stroller

this is a brand new type of stroller- designed by parents who have 1+twins... they have a FB page and are very responsive if you ask questions, etc. Mine just showed up yesterday so here's my initial review I posted on Multpiles- thought you all could use this info - as it's also great for toddler + infant.... for a really small, compact, double umbrella that's a tandem instead of SBS (which i can't stand using indoors!)

Also here is a pic of my boys in it last night (they were NOT happy b/c it was right before bed time and they were confused to be put into a stroller inside, lol)

----------

I have watched one too many "stroller reviews" on Baby Gizmo... and the whole time I was checking it out- I was thinking of what that lady would say--- so here's my take :)

I also wrote up a review with suggestions for the owners that i'm going to email them. They are a husband/wife team with 1+twins.

Ironically- today at drop off- I was using my SBS Combi and cursing it as I struggled to get through the 4 doors and hallways - kept getting stuck on things --- such a nice day for this to show up!!

And of course- I?ll add in anything else I notice after using it a few times :)
--------------------------------------------------------

-It comes out of the box almost fully assembled- just needed to pop on the front wheels. NICE!

-It was hard to push down on foot push in back to open? Maybe it is just tight from being new?. Hoping it will loosen up and be easier. Otherwise opening it is super simple- like a typical umbrella stroller.

- It comes with a little bag ? nice feature! Can be hooked on to the back, or carried with strap. Has room for diapers, wipes, bottles, wallet, etc.

- It comes with a cup holder that slides onto the side of stroller for mom.

-The front leg area can move up or down ? nice option for smaller kids ? it will be down for my guys b/c they are bigger already.

- The back seat reclines nicely ? the mechanism is a very basic latch type of piece- like you?d see on the back of a beach chair (the only way I can think to describe it). It has 3 positions. Says it can be used from birth.

-The recline for front seat is difficult to do ? not a big deal because I don?t see myself even bothering to recline the front. It reclines so little- I don?t think it really serves a purpose- they could do away with it all together. The front seat says it can seat from 6mo+.

-It has 2 peek-a-boo windows on the sun shade ? they have a clear plastic window. I would prefer mesh.

-Sun shade is a nice size ? it covers both front and back seats. The back seat is totally covered ? this might bother some older kids in the back.

-The back cover will also be close to a bigger child?s head. Might annoy some kids. I don?t think this will be an issue for me ? what I purchased this stroller for (daycare drop off, doctor trips, quick trips, etc) I doubt I?ll be using the sun shade much.

-It comes with a rain cover!! I have never owned one before for my strollers. It?s difficult to fold it back up to a reasonable size for storage- but guessing this is common for most rain covers? This is going to be nice to have on rainy daycare drop off days!

-When the back seat is in full upright position (which my sons will want to be in 99% of the time) the fabric folds inward in a strange way- I pushed it out but it?s still a little awkward. Again- not a big deal ? this will not be the stroller I use for all-day long trips, etc. I will recommend they put some sort of snap or Velcro that holds the fabric folded down/back and out of the way.

-It has nice 5-point harnesses with padding. Buckles easily ? much like the Combi buckles.

-I believe you can adjust the height of the harness shoulder straps- it does not say how in the instruction book- but seems you can change their height. I asked the owners in my email... will find out.

-The break mechanism feels a little flimsy. I wish the little foot levers were slightly bigger (knowing this stroller is meant to be small, I understand why they are not)

-The wheels have a little bit of ?squish? to them. (i.e.- not a totally hard plastic feel). They are still typical "cheaper feel" wheels that you find on umbrella strollers - what I expected... but wanted to point that out.

-Front wheels can be locked or swivel ? nice feature.

-I?m not sure how you could hang a bag from the handles ? since the back seat is right there. As all strollers say ? it says NOT to hang one ? but in this case, I don?t think you really can.

-The handle bars are quite high (in a good way), making it a great stroller for taller people. I'm 5'8" and felt the handles were higher than my combi (will compare later)... A nice feel for me.

-There is a decent sized storage basket underneath ? not super easy to access b/c of the bars of the stroller, but will fit a lot more than most strollers of this size.

-The fold is pretty easy and fast. It is not much bigger (It?s just a little taller) than the average single umbrella stroller when folded.

-It has 2 straps to help fasten the stroller together when folded. The stroller actually pulls in even tighter than the straps appear to allow ? I wish the straps would get tighter... perhaps I'm missing somthing. They also appear that they could unfasten easily. I'm suggesting they change this to a latch like the Combi has.

-it does NOT have a carrying strap (like the Combi does) ? that would be a nice bonus, making this an even better stroller to use during travel.

Re: My review of Kinderwagon Tandem UMBRELLA stroller

  • Where can I buy this stroller online in the US?
  • Loading the player...
  • Thanks for the info! I love hearing reccommendations from people as I start researching double strollers, very helpful! I had to laugh at your caption about your boys being put in the stroller. That is something I would do and I can totally see my DS having this puzzled look on his face as I'm taking pictures of him in the stroller....LOL. Too cute.

you can buy it online from the website i linked in the post - and i think they have a list of retailers, too - but they are limited as this was just released.

i got it from zulily.com for a special sale price - they said they hope to have it listed again in a couple months --- here's the site if you want to join to get their email updates

  • How much was it on zulily?
  • Hi. Thank you for your review. I've been studying this Kinderwagon HOP for a week already and seems that it looks almost perfect to use in the airport and quick trips to the grocery and mall. I have a question though do you think it's sturdy enough to use in international travels?

I am thinking of an option between using 2 small umbrella strollers for my 10-month-old and a 3-year-old toddler  OR this Kinderwagon HOP because I can push my two kids in one stroller which is what I really prefer.

We're going to ride the trams, subways, trains and places with quite small doorways.  Thanks for your time :)
