I found a tutorial online for making a 60's style gathered skirt:

And dressy fabrics were on sale for 50% off yesterday at Joann's, so now I'm the proud owner of a half-completed gray taffeta skirt. It's good practice since I haven't sewn clothing in years, but omg. I'm about to pull my hair out.
Re: Channeling my inner Betty Draper.
That is really cute! Taffeta though - I'd be pulling my hair out too. PIP when done please?
You betcha I'll PIP. I'm going to AW the hell out of this thing!!
DH asked if it comes with pearls, a twin set, and a ruffled apron. LMAO.
Yep, actually I am! This skirt (well, plus the fabric) has all the same technical features that The Dress does-- invisible zipper, slippery fabric, gathered waistband, etc, so it's my practice run.
I have the pattern and fabric/notions ready to go for The Dress-- royal blue hammered satin. Swoon.
