Tell what I can take Dr. Bump

I'm pretty sure my husband so lovingly shared whatever sickly germs he had the past few days with me Confused. I woke up with a horrible sore throat and I feel like poo and a slight fever and blah blah blah.
Any way... since my docs office is closed I cant really call and get their opinion/advice - any of you ladies know if there is anything safe to take for a cold (at least I assume its a cold)? I've been gargling salt water for my sore throat and drinking some hot tea with lemon and ate some chicken soup and thats kind of helped but didnt know if there was anything else medicinal or non medicinal (herbal) that you might suggest to help this cranky prego feel better.

Thanks!

  • What about gargling with listerine to help kill some germs. And drinking some Vitamin C?? I swear by the Emergen C, 1,000 mg of vitamin c.

  • Ive heard EmerganC is fine to take but to stay away from Airborne. Other than that over sleep, sweat it out (plenty of covers and such) and drink plenty of fluids and OJ. Hope you feel better soon! Just take it easy the next few days.

  • Both my Dr. and pharmacist said Sudafed is OK for congestion as well as regular robitussin (not DM) for coughing.

Emergen-C is safe?!?!?  Good to know!  I have had a horrible cold for a few days.  I finally talked to a pharmacis. I lost my safe meds list, and it was after hours yesterday), and was told Tylenol, Benedryl, or Sudafed is fine (but no more than three tablets in a day).  I got the same answer a couple hours later from a friend who is a pharmacist.

  • A friend of mine recommended swedish bitters, but only as a compress on the outside of your throat.  Don't ingest it.  I thought it was a little strange, but did use it on a washcloth with warm water, put it on my throat and fell asleep and woke up the next day with no trace of a sore throat.  I continued with my lemon and honey water though just to be sure.  It was exactly what I needed!!!  Get lots of warm, yummy liquids in, too.  I hope it helps...I just went to the doc because of this turning into an ear infection, got prescribed antibiotics and got way sicker :(  I will stick with my home remedies from now on!  Good luck!

  • My doctor said no to Emergen-C, but that could be her opinion. She said no high doses of Vitamin C and even suggested I don't increase my Vitamin C, but increase the D3 when I feel something coming on. Sudafed, Benadryl, Robitussin DM and Tylenol/Tylenol PM are all safe for a cold according to my dr. Lots of rest and popsicles! Feel better soon!

My dr. told me the same thing (and I clarified - the good sudafed is ok.  You know, the one you get carded for...)  I was trying to shake what I had doing non-medication remedies the past few days, and finally broke down and sent DH to CVS to get sudafed for me.  I took 1 dose at 9 last night, and my nose has been clear since.  I'm thinking if I take 1 more dose, it will be completely gone - the same thing happened earlier in my pregnancy (around 8-10 weeks).

Just know that brand name sudafed has been pulled from the shelves for some reason, so you'll have to take the generic.

  • Benedryl allergy and sinus. It clears up your head and makes you pass out! My doctor recommended it to me when I had bronchitis/sinusitis a couple of months ago and it was a lifesaver!

When I was in the hospital on bed rest my doctor gave me sudafed for congestion.

This is what my doctor told me as well.  It sucks cus I would  be using the Emergen-C everyday if he said it was ok.  He just said to drink lots of juice and water and if I had to, to take tylenol PM.  Hope you feel better!
