Any one else Cloth Diapering?

So I know I'm doing natural labor, and breast feeding but the one thing I couldn't decide on was cloth diapers, vs disposable. After talking to my cousin who used to Nanny for her friend and used cloth diapers, she showed me the site and I'm hooked!! https://www.fuzzibunz.com/ I guess they recommend 10-15 diapers to start with, so the gal planning my shower is just gonna have a diaper fund, to put towards them. Any one else looking to cloth diaper?

I did with my first and will again. I started off with prefolds and covers, then moved her into small fuzzibunz and BG one size when she hit 9 or 10 lbs. I probably have 6 or 7 different brands of diapers in various sizes, but we did use fuzzibunz the most. She was in the mediums until she potty trained.

I just need to have the velcro Bum Genius converted to snaps because the velcro is still worn out, and replace the elastic in most of my fuzzibunz (some I had bought second hand so they'd already been through a lot).

Yep! We started CD'ing DD at 6 months and will be CD'ing this LO from the beginning.

We plan on it. Actually just ordered 3 bitti tuttos on baby steals today. I'm thinking we may also try gPants with the cloth inserts. I still have a lot of research and deciding to do. But we are def. not using disposables. It's sickening how much waste that is.

yeah the amount of waste is crazy. I also just can't really imagine spending all day with plastic wrapped around me down there... I can see how diaper rash would happen really easy cuz no matter how "breathable" they are I dont think they can be as breathable as a cloth diaper.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm planning on trying ECing. (I really don't mean this to sound offensive, but) I'm a dog trainer and the ECing process seems very similar to housebreaking a puppy...give them lots of opportunities to go in the "right" place and they'll learn to wait for that. Your whole life revolves around it for awhile, and then it gets easier than if you hadn't. Plus it makes total sense to me to not teach a child to ignore their bladder and then later have to un-teach it to potty train them. I will use diapers as back up, I haven't decided yet if cloth or disposable.

So yes, really don't mean to be offensive by comparing babies to puppies...but the psychology behind positive dog training and child rearing are very similar and since I live immersed in the psychology of positive training I tend to see it everywhere.

Anyone else trying ECing?

We plan to use a combo of Thirsties diapers - I have the duo diapers, a couple of the new duo fab fitteds, a lot of the old-style sized fab fitteds, duo wraps and plain Chinese prefolds.

Definitely not me, as you pretty have have to be with them all the time, and that isn't how it'll work for us. I did have a friend successfully do EC and her child was diaper free by a year.

I cloth diapered Sophia for a while. I didn't stick with it for many reasons, but I actually liked doing it. There are a LOT of giveaway blogs for CDing. I know Exploits of a Military Momma does a lot of CD giveaways. Since you have so much time I'd watch for giveaways (easy to google!).

If we decide to CD this time I will use gDiapers or Flip's. I loved using AIO's & pockets when S was older because it was easier to put on a moving toddler. But I think it would make more sense to use liners and covers with a NB.

I have not done enough research to decide if I'm going to try for reals, but I've been very interested based on what I have heard.

We wanted to do cloth diapers, but we don't have our own laundry machines and its $3.50 per load [and they are very small machines.] That cost all the time isn't that feasible for us. And with the diaper service, we would need to be able to handle a week's worth at a time [both of dirty and clean] and we just don't have that kind of space. So, disposables for us unfortunately.

I'm totally into the cloth diapering (even though my baby hasn't arrived yet) and plan to use the BumGenius 4.0 velcro diapers. I thought about using the snaps because they'll last longer (won't catch in the wash), but felt the velcro would make the concept more accessible to in-laws, etc.. Unfortunately, I'm looking for a daycare who will let me use these at their facility (there's currently a TN law that prohibits them, separate rant over on the CD board).

Yep, I CD'd DS (after he was a few months old, I was intimidated at first) and we'll be CDing #2. I've got a ton of CDs already, and I ordered 2 more yesterday on babysteals. I just need to get newborn diapers and I'll be in good shape. I'll probably use prefolds and covers, and some kissaluv fitteds for the newborn period.

I'm definitely planning on it. I'm not sure if the daycare we want to use will use them there, but at least the child will be in CDs most of the time ideally. I found a blog with really good advice on what you "need" to start - suggestions for different basics etc so that if you dont like one type, you aren't out a significant sum of money. I'll have to see if I can dig it up.

The ladies on the CD board have also put together an AMAZING spreadsheet reviewing all the different brands etc.

My friend {In Tennessee} brings her son to day care twice a week and she exclusively CD's.

Please keep in mind that every child fits into diapers differently. Don't build a stash of exclusively one kind. You *may* get lucky and those work for you. But we had to use a different type at night than during the day. There were some that I just didn't like. If your baby is thin some diapers will work better than others...same if you have a chunk of a baby.

I didn't CD my DS and spent WAYYYY to much money on displosables (and still spending money on them).

We calculated that it is 3600 to get him to two years old (which is when I want him to be PT by) with disposables.

With CD it is 500-600 if I have a stash of various diapers of around 36-40, which is what I want. But that's still saving me 3000-3100 dollars.

Plus they are so darn cute.

I haven't started building my stash, but I do plan on it starting soon.

I think the main ones I want to try are the Flip system (I've seen them in use, and they seemed like they weren't that hard), Fuzzibunz, Bumgenius, and maybe some swaddlebees. I may find others, but those are the ones I've done the most research on.

I started CDing DS2 when he was around a year old and will CD this LO from birth. With DS2 I used prefolds with thirsties duo covers and a snappi. I tried other things but like them best. It's what I'll get for this LO.

I'm not on my computer so I don't have the link but if the only objection to CD in the cost of laundry it may still be possible. I've seen a small 5 gal washer for around $40 that I've heard wonderful things about on CD websites. It's hand cranked but doesn't take long at all and is super easy to use. Apprently is uses pressure to force the soapy water through the clothes. I remember it was sold on Amazon. You would still have to pay to dry your diapers but a lot of people hang dry diapers so if you got a small drying rack that could be an option.

I've never seen anything like that before. That's totally awesome!! And you could totally just dry the dipes on a drying rack (which I did even though I had a dryer).

We cloth diaper our son and will do the same with this one. We use greenmountain.com's prefolds and thirsties duo wraps. Weve never used fuzzibuns or bumgenious for a few reasons:

-we prefer to use natural fibers (cotton or hemp) on baby's bum

-they are expensive, even on sale

- they take a long time to dry.

-they hold stink more than prefolds

Also, a friend of mine swears by them and says she hasnt had any blowouts or leaks in them, but has in disposables (she has back up disposables from her shower, that people gave her)

Glad to hear its not so unheard of! And I'm pretty sure I'll stick to Fuzzibunz but I'm gonna try a couple of other brands also. I dont mind using disposables off an on once I've decided on a brand for sure when baby's born and am waiting to get enough of them in. And for those of you that mentioned laundry I'm lucky in that area. :-) We have a 1 yr old HE washer and Dryer. and spend on average, $40.00 a year in electricity. And it uses at tops 13 gallons of water. So its not that much for us to do laundry a bit more often :-)
