teacher birthdays

I just noticed on the school calendar that one if DD's class assistants birthday is on Monday. I'll have DD make a card, but do you usually give gifts for birthdays? I was thinking of a Starbucks giftcard.

    I never got anything for my bday when I was a teacher...a small Starbucks gift card and card from your DD would be very appreciated.

    I usually give a small gift w/ a card on my DD's teacher's bday. At a min. I'd bake cookies. IMO, just doing something thoughtful can go a long way.

    My birthday was last week.  One student brought me a donut from DD, one brought me a card, and one brought me a gift bag with 2 magazines, a sleep mask, some hot chocolate, and lotion.  I appreciated all of it, but did not expect any of it. 

    If they put the assistant's birthday on the calendar I would at least acknowledge it with a card.
