5mo PP, back pain at epidural site

Does anyone else have back pain where you got the epidural?

After fully healing from the delivery down south, I noticed the upper back pain almost daily.  It seems to be sore right where at the site of where my epidural was.

I am going to bring it up next time I visit the ob/gyn next month.

Just wondering if you experienced it, and if got worse or better.

 Thanks!

Re: 5mo PP, back pain at epidural site

  • With DD it was close to a year before I didn't feel anything at all. It didn't hurt but if I bent the wrong way I could definitely feel something (like a bruise or something). I brought it up at the hospital before I got my epidural this time around and they acted as if it was not a big deal but were surprised I still felt pain at the site that long. This time around I feel it again if I bend my back certain ways. I would bring it up to your ob. I am curious to if this is normal.

  • At 4 months PP, I started having lower back pain and decided to see a chiropractor. He asked if I had an epidural (which I did) - I hadn't even put 2 and 2 together. He didn't give me an explanation, but after 2 adjustments my lower back no longer hurts.

I'd be interested in what your OB has to say about it.

  • I had that with DS. Mine lasted almost a year like PP said. I brought it up to my doc at one of my PP visits. She told me that it was common and that as long as I wasn't loosing any feeling in my lower body or getting tingles anywhere then I was okay. She said that it could last for a while, but that the soreness would go away on its own.

  • I haven't had that pain, but have run into several women who have. Some of them think that they were nicked a little when the epidural was going in, but I'm honestly not sure what truly causes it. Hope you feel better soon!
  • Scheduling the doctor appointment in the next couple weeks. I will post after I hear what they say.
