What is the one (or many, if there are many) thing you hate that DH/SO had when you got together? Did you make him get rid of it or does he still have it?
DH has a gigantic rainbow colored hammock he got in Mexico when he was 15. It's never been used EVER and has been sitting in a cabinet of ours. I keep trying to get rid of it, but I always get the "but I really want to have a hammock in the back yard!" to which I respond "we can get a hammock, but I sure don't want THAT thing in our yard!"
We're at a stalemate. I will never let it go up and he will never let it go away.
He also has a gross hat that he refuses to let me wash. (shudder)
Posters for video games! He has SO MANY and wanted them hung up all over our living room. Uhm, no sweetie, I am super geeky...but no.
I did compromise, he handsome really cool looking mini posters from a game the look like retro adds. They were for odd stuff but that was cool because when you looked at them they looked like neat retro adds, a closer look revealed they were adds for odd stuff. I actually like them and he loved them so we framed them in antique frames that i painted in bright colors and hung them in our living room. People compliment them all the time and he has the secret that they are from a game he loves!
Also he has some action figures (yea i know) that I put amoung our book shelf. I know he wanted to keep them for DS (at the time future kid) and they look a bit cool because they are hidden amoungst my antique book collection as a net little pop of personality. LOL, I kindof like the quirkyness they bring...
He did get rid of most of it though...some of it was just horrible, how much game merch does one need???
Plus it was only fair, my mom has always got me Hello Kitty and Twin Stars stuff growing up and some of it was oddly sentimental to me. I have a few pieces displayed with my cook books and amongst my "china".
I like that our home has little surprise elements from our past combined!
An old guitar that was broken and unfixable. He kept it forever because it was his first guitar, and I guess was sentimental to him. He wanted to hang it on a wall in our spare bedroom/office but I refused. I finally convinced him to get rid of it. I'm all about the sentimental things, but it just took up too much room and was collecting dust!

Are the ads for the game "Fallout"? I too am geeky and your description reminded me of that. It's one of my favorites, and the ads in it are very cool...
Just large amounts of clutter which he got rid of.
Also - He has this old tv cabinet with a roll top front that used to house a t.v., I guess. It was his grandmother's. He used it as a TV stand in his bedroom and kept stuff inside. It was really ugly.
I can't get him to get rid of it so we spray-painted it a dark brown and use it as a printer cabinet/stand now.
He has lots of Star Trek memoribilia that's important to him. I don't push for him to get rid of it but sometimes I get pissed when I am trying to find room in our relatively-small area to store stuff that we actually need.
But... I'm not a collector, at all. I never have been - I just don't collect anything. And I know collections are important to some people, so that's fine. He doesn't add to the collection and has gotten rid of some pieces so I can't complain.

Nope, although we do have Vault Boy and the art book! I love the ads also. They are for BioShock. My son's middle name is actually Atlas so it is a neat little tie in!
He still has his mom, so yeah, didn't get rid of it.
buhahaha!! THIS!
But, when I read the question the first thing that came to mind is this horrible old old old pair of camo shorts. UGHHHHH! And he still has them, I joke about them getting thrown out every so often, but in his dresser they still sit.

His Xbox. I sold it the minute I got preg with DS because I will not tolerate a gamer hubby. He doesn't even miss it now!
Wow! My BFF would love to do this with her husband's gaming systems, I'm sure. My DH got lucky; I'm a gamer, too! I spent the majority of the pregnancy playing video games, but really neither of us has played a game on the xbox since DS was born... We use it for watching DVDs and the instant Netflix.
First of all, there are plenty of smaller, more portable, reasonable options for speakers today. You do not need to own two cabinet speakers that are four feet tall. Something about these speakers just screams "bachelor pad" to me and I hate them. Hate. Them.
Second, they only recently were actually hooked up to a stereo system. For the last year or so they were basically just ugly plant stands. This made me hate them even more. They only get used a few times a week, even now.
He hates way more of my stuff. I'm sure he could go on for hours about my typewriter, the music instruments I rarely play, my choice of art, etc.
This hideous mask from Africa that his dad brought him back. I get that it's "cool" b/c it's from Africa, and handmade, and his dad bought it for him...but it creeps me out and reminds me of spells and witches. I'm a very strong Christian and I just don't like the vibe it gives me. So I stuffed it in his memory tote and I'm hoping he won't notice (I wouldn't ever get rid of it w/o his consent).
Actually, that's really it from when we got together. He has a few things that he's gotten since we've been married that I'm not wild about, but they're more things that were given to him and we just don't know what to do with...
For example ~ his dad painted him a picture once (pretty picture) and built a frame to go around it (HIDEOUS). It's this rustic, country-looking frame made of rough wood. Just doesn't go with our decor.
Also, his mom and stepdad kept this HUGE drawing of DH that he did himself when he was 5 or 6 ~ a self portrait that is called "Big Boy". It is hilarious, granted, but it's massive. Well, his stepdad BUILT a frame to put around it, and they gave it to us for his birthday one year. Uhhh...what are we going to do with it? We hung it up in our gameroom when we were in a different house (it was a big room and it was mostly used for an office), but even DH got tired of it and took it down. We moved, and now it's just sitting in our garage. There is absolutely nowhere for it to go, and neither of us want a 6' x 6' drawing that he did as a kid hanging up in our house.
*sigh*

An old metal beat up desk that his grandpa gave him. I finally convinced him to get rid of it and get a nice desk which is now in our basement because the townhouse we are renting is too small. the new desk went nicely in our office at our old house though.
DH also had EVERY SINGLE textbook and notebook from college. I made him throw away any of them that were not related to his degree.

EEK! As a gamer couple this is crazy cakes to me, I would have gone nuts if I was your DH...but we are a comical typical geek couple almost. We keep comics by our toilet...I kid you not! I have a book sling that has comic books in it!
Although I don't want game posters slathered on my walls I don't want to kiss the games good bye. We have NetFlix on our PS3 and I'll be honest that last night once DS was in bed DH and I were playing Rage together! We don't get to play as much now but we have many a "date night" playing games while DS is a sleep.
Did you know he was a gamer when you married him? HAHA maybe I take my hobbies to seriously! McAllie I wish we lived near each other, I played games although my pregnancy to. And is your icon thingy a Dr. Who reference? Because if so it makes my heart flutter!
My DH is a RUSH fan... I gave up trying to fight it, so we have two professionally framed RUSH posters in our house... If I'm stuck having them stay up on the wall, he's stuck with having them look nice!
Re: Continuing the DH train...
The Budwiser drinking glasses and mugs. ::sigh::
Nope we still have them.
