Trying to Get Pregnant

Expensive Cart-Before-Horse

I know this is cart before horse, but I bought a glider last weekend. It's matches our living room furniture and is very comfy, so for us it's dual purpose (not just for baby).

Well it came in today, so we will be picking it up in a few minutes!!! I am so excited bc it is ridiculously comfy.

What's the biggest/most expensive cart-before-horse thing you've bought?

Re: Expensive Cart-Before-Horse

  • We bought a 5 bedroom house before having any babies to fill it with.

(Granted, only two of those rooms are planned to be used as kids rooms... but if we wind up never having kids, we'll have at least 1 room that we'll have to come up with a use for!)

  • The house, we bought it with the intention of starting a family since we lived in a one bedroom condo before hand. We had it built and put in 4 bedrooms with the intention on filling 2 more.
  • We definitely wanted to buy a house anyway, but we certainly shopped specs (room number and layout, kitchen size, yard, etc.) with kids in mind. Probably my car also - I wanted a crossover with cargo space for a future stroller. So far that thing has hauled nothing around but dogs and their gear.

  • We got a second, "family-sized" car and upgraded from a 1br apt. to a 2 br apt.

I would love a house, but HCOL areas suck assss.

  • Mmmmm, I don't know. I guess I'd say our cars. We have 2 station wagons. But our reasoning behind it is b/c we need all-wheel drive, and we didn't want SUVs. Gives us the cargo space we need for skis, dog, etc....and also for strollers, babies, etc.

I'd also like to say our house, but DH thinks that our 1700 sq.ft. 3 bedroom house is too small for us + baby. I think he's taking crazy pills.

  • I honestly bought a stock pile of diapers that could literally last us a whole year...The total retail value is redic, however, I coupon and paid less than $4 for a bag that usually costs $10.    They don't ever expire and I figure I can always give them away as gifts if I end up not being able to have babies.  I have a pic I'll post lol.  This was how I convinced MH that we can afford a baby.

    I want a glider!!  you're so lucky.

  • Nothing too big yet. I did almost buy a Rebecca Minkoff diaper bag this week though which would've set me back $300-$400. I was rationalizing it as a big purchase I felt more comfortable making now, but once I was pregnant I wouldn't be able to rationalize that much on a diaper bag. Other than that just some maternity close I've found on sale/clearance.

  • I bought a Not Rational Hansel diaper bag because I can also use it for a work bag, and I always knew I wanted a really nice leather diaper bag (I designed diaper bags for years and was intent on not carrying around a cartoonish pink or blue one) Plus the bag normally retails for $600-$700 and I got it for a sweet deal for $350.

I'm with ya.  I'm terrified of jinxing myself (even though I'm not at all superstitious) so I haven't bought a damn thing.

I agree with this. I had a freaking breakdown last month bc I bought 2 pairs of pj pants from Target. One in my size, and one a size up. I cried later bc I figured I could wear the larger ones when I'm KU, and I thought I had jinxed it.

  • It will probably be a house. We've been looking and are taking into account that we need to have extra space for kids. :) I have not broken down and bought anything else because I am also afraid of jinxing myself. Plus, my sister is KU so I can actually justify spending money on baby stuff for her. :)
  • My husband actually sent me a BRU ad today at work to ask me if one of the car seats on sale is one I like... He wants to go look this weekend in case we can get a good deal on something we like. Definitely cart before horse but it was so sweet that he was the one who suggested it!

  • The most expensive was $100 for a madela pump in style. I knew a woman who used to it once and decided it wasn't for her.

  • The only thing we've bought for future baby are a Brewers set (pacifier, bottle, and bib) and a pajama set with guitars on it.

I do plan on seeing if I can find any expensive furniture items on Black Friday though, so we'll see.

  • While i am not very superstitious, I feel like I would be jinxING
  • So dd is helping me post, lol.

Anyways, I haven't really bought much for a second child, but we did trade in my car for a bigger one last week, but DD's car seat only fit in the middle of my old one, so no way 2 kids could fit.  and I bought her jumperoo as unisex, so 2nd baby can use it, if it is a boy.  But yesterday, I did buy DD a pink walker.  DH pointed out I should have probably got a unisex one.

  • Nothing to expensive just some baby clothes that were on sale that I loved and we bought some Cleveland Browns things DH loved. I dont see it as being a jinx, I see it as being ready for the baby when they decide to make an appearance! =)
