Before DD was born, I could pretty much eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight as long as I exercised moderately. I had a pretty bad delivery so it was a few months before I could even walk right but BFing had me 10lbs below my pre-baby weight so I wasn't too worried about it. Since DD weaned though, my weight has slowly been creeping upwards...Nothing has really changed as far as my habits. I eat and exercise pretty much the same as I did before she was born and have been since about 9 months PP (when I finally felt 'normal' and didn't have pain anymore) but now it doesn't really seem to maintain my weight anymore. Going to cut back portions and such but did any of you have this problem? I also have a lot less energy exercising than I used to. At first just attributed that to motherhood but wondering if something else isn't going on?

Re: Sluggish Metabolism PP?
I haven't but I may once our insurance is all worked out. I don't really have any other symptoms of a thyroid problem though.
My guess is that inactivity and te resulting muscle loss with your weight loss mean that you may have been the same weight as pp, but not the same body composition and the less muscle you have, the fewer calories you burn.
I'd cut down on cardio, work on weight training, and make sure you get enough protein.
Well the first thing I thought was your thyroid like PP said... It is not abnormal for it to become hyperactive then under active post-pregnancy. That would explain how you got 10lbs under your pre-pregnancy weight, and why you are now gaining weight and have less energy. I'm 6 lbs under my pre-preggers weight at 3 months post partum, and just found out my thyroid is hyperactive... they are checking it every month now to see if it will return to normal or switch to hypothyroidism.
So yeah, I'd suggest getting your thyroid checked. It's a super easy blood test and your pcp or ob can do it.

I think if you check the Synthroid site you may find that you've got more of the subtle symptoms of thyroid in the early stages. Any time you say "I have less energy ... than I used to" is something that triggers for those of us who have hypothyroid one of the key symptoms.. Add in weight gain - as a symptom... Things that are somewhat general but they're actually huge once the levels get equated out..
It's not unusual for some women to have hypothyroid PP and it's best to get in there earlier rather than later to get it checked. If you're on the border, it's best to just start the treatment..
Go get tested!
