how to get puke out of a stuffed animal?

specifically a very nice teddy bear that says to only surface clean?

whatever my husband did last night did not cut it.

Re: how to get puke out of a stuffed animal?

  • I throw all sorts of stuffed animals in the washer these days, whether they say surface clean or not.  As long as they don't seem like they'll fall apart...

If you don't want to risk it, perhaps hand wash in the sink?

  • I also wash toys that say to only surface wash.  I put them in a lingerie bag or a pillow case, run a gentle cycle, and use the mildest detergent I have on hand.  Then I air-dry.  Nothing has ever been ruined.  I can't think of anything that would successfully defeat puke except that!

  • I also machine wash stuffed animals.  They're not always quite the same afterward, but flattened fur is better than puke.

Oxy spray is also helpful to eat up the nastiness.

    Yes

  • thanks, i'll try washing on the gentile cycle.

someone once told me that when *your* kid is sick, it's not gross.  that person is a lying liar that lies.  it's freaking nasty.  i mean, i felt bad for little sprouter b/c he didn't know what was happening to him (first time puker!) but i had to turn over most of the cleaning to my husband b/c i thought i was going to get sick.   Ick!

  • I wash them too.  I mean if it is between throwing it out because it is ruined or throwing it in the washer it is worth a try.

    this and this.

DS's first real puke (as in, post BM refulx) was while i was pregnant and he did it all over my shoes. it was so completely disgusting and i had to throw the shoes away (tried to clean them but i could still smell the puke)
