C-sections

Post c-section hemorrhage

I am due May 5 and am almost 100% decided on a RCS. My daughter was an emergency c-section, but I was not in labor prior to surgery like most. Anyway, I feel comfortable sticking with what I know, so I'll probably have another c-section.

My delivery day was traumatic for my husband and I both. We were going on the second day of no movement from our little girl. She'd had lazy days before, but this was the SECOND day in a row that she was not really moving. I knew we had to call my midwife. It was a Saturday so we were told to go to the hospital, a hospital we'd never set foot in before. They monitored me for a few hrs, DD was unresponsive other than a hb and they had no idea why. They did a quick c-section and when she was born the cord was wrapped around her body in multiple areas, so she was literally binded. Thank goodness the doctor made that call, because she would not have survived labor or delivery.

So, that's the story. Another terrifying thing happened a week PP. We were in church and I had taken her into the nursery to BF and as soon as I stopped walking blood started rushing out. Undies soaked, skirt, everything. I remember really starting to panic when it was pooling in my shoes!!! All this is happening with my daughter in my arms. Luckily there were some other moms in there with me who were able to take my very cranky/hungry little girl while I sat down and waited for someone to get my husband. We went to the ER and come to find out, that blood should have come out right after delivery. Has this happened to anyone else? I thought I was bleeding to death!

Re: Post c-section hemorrhage

  • That's terrifying!  It didn't happen to me after my csection, but it happen to my sister after her vaginal birth.  It was a few weeks after the birth and she hemorraged at home.  They had to take up all the carpet and sand the wood floors underneath she bled so much.  The problem they found with her was a 2mm piece of placenta that wasn't fully expelled at birth.  It was terrifying for her and the main reason they decided they are one and done.  I can't imagine that happening - I was so scared my sister was going to die.  Did you end up with a blood transfusion?  I think they ended up giving her 3 pints.  You are very brave.

I'm sure the second csection will go well and as planned!  The cases of hemorraging are pretty rare I think and I'm sure even less likely to happen twice.

  • That happened to me about 5 days PP with DD#1.  I didn't bleed much immediately after and it just hit suddenly.  So scary!  I remember the puddle of blood on the floor.  Ended up going to the ER and staying overnight and everything turned out fine.  I did have a RCS with DD#2 and had no issues with PP bleeding.
