How much is your newborn held vs in the bouncer, swing, floor, etc....

Do you hold your LO most of the day? Well besides bedtime and naps. How much time does your LO spend in the bouncer, swing, on the ground?

  • So far, not much time on the floor, bouncer, swing. He swings while we eat usually, and lays on the floor some, but he is held a lot! I just cant resist, and he likes to snuggle :)

  • My LO loves her Baby Einstein mat so she spends about 30 minutes to an hour between each nap on there. I also put her on her boppy on the couch for a while every evening and read to her. She loves it!! She is only in her swing when I know she is getting tired. She loves to be held when she wants but she definitely lets me know when she wants to be put down to play. I think she is a baby Einstein addict. ;)

  • If it were up to my DH, he would be held all day/night, but I can't do everything with LO in my arms.....and I do say he enjoys his swing, bouncer and pack and play.....so he probably spends an even amount in each and my arms but for sure mostly in DH's arms when he's around....
  • When he was truly a newborn (< 1 month) he was always held. Putting him down awake resulted in tiny, tiny World War III. Putting him down asleep but not so asleep that he didn't know what I was doing was also an offense worthy of a nuclear reaction.

At almost 3 months, he spends 30% of his awake time in his rock n play (usually in the kitchen) and he's happy as long as he's deemed my activities to be sufficiently entertaining. 70% is still spent attached to me in some way, usually in the k'tan.

If I break skin to skin contact while he is, we'll call it "napping" but it would better be described as holding me down and resting with one eye open, the nap is declared over.

  • Our Lil Man is carried about 80% of the time he's awake he doesnt sit in anything for more than 20 mins.

  • Our LO doesn't like to be held that often since she's so active.  We move her all around from her swing to her bouncer to her playmat, etc.  The only time she really lets me hold her is if I'm nursing her.  As soon as she's done she wants to get down and take a nap or go do something else.  It made me kind of sad that she's not much of a snuggler, but I think it's just because she's so curious and active.  Not unlike myself.  :)

  • LO is held most of the time. When I'm doing things around the house, I either wear her in the Moby wrap or put her in her bouncy seat. We just tried out her play mat for the first time yesterday and she liked it, but only for about 10 minutes. Being in someone's arms is always her first choice!

  • Since she's gotten a bit more active and curious, not much...she seems to prefer to be on her play mat or kicking around. She also doesn't seem to like to sleep in our arms. But she does eat while being held and we get cuddle time in every morning and evening. :)

  • First 6 weeks, pretty much held/wore all the time.  Now she is 12 weeks and spends a good amount of time on the floor surrounded by her sisters and me.  When I can't be there to supervise, she goes in the swing or bouncer.  She still gets held quite a bit too though.

  • I hold DS as much as possible :) He has used his bouncer and swing a lot, I guess he used his bouncer the most at first, and now he uses his swing for several hours at night for bedtime. I would said he spends the least amount of time on the ground, but that'll change as he gets older and more mobile. I am glad I bought both the swing and bouncer though as we've gotten a ton of use out of both!

  • It def depends on the day, but I try to get her to lay on my bed (looking at the ceiling fan that she is enthralled with for now) or in her crib, or playmat between eat feeding/nap, just b/c I think it is good for her. I carry her LOTS though... :o)
  • Mostly held.  DH uses the swing more than I do.  When I want to be hands-free I put LBB in a moby.

About once a day we use the playmat for about 15 minutes or so or until he starts getting overstimulated.

  • DD is in her swing most of the day for naps and when awake I am carrying her around or feeding her.  And she spends about an hour total a day on the floor on a blanket (is hating her play mat right now).  And lately the only way she will sleep has been sleeping ON me at night (tisk tisk, I know).

  • Besides bedtime, he's held almost all day.  Even naps right now.  He'll nap for only 15-20 mins if put him down, but for an hour+ if he's in the Moby or Ergo.
