What's the difference between spit up and vomit? When babies vomit does it look/sound like an adult? My DD is 5 months and she recently has been spitting up more than usual, doesn't seem to be bothered by it but we just started solids a few days ago, (the spit up started happening more before we started the solids) She spit up a lot around the time she was 3 months, pretty much the whole month and I'm wondering if it's just a phase maybe? Also she had some sweet potatoes today and her spit up had an orange tinge to it, but that's not vomit right? Sorry if it's confusing! TIA
Re: Spit up and vomit
i've often heard the difference as related to the force with which it's expelled. If it just dribbles/flows out of the mouth and down the neck/front/etc, it's spit up. If it comes out with some force, then it's vomit (like if she's sitting, it would hit her legs/feet).
We also had a round of lots of spit up right at 5 months too, and I called the doctor because I was concerned that a few times it had been a whole bottle's worth. They told me just to watch her for any other symptoms or if it never got better, which it did within about a week. no explanation, but I'm glad it's over (::knock on wood::)
Acid Reflux? My LO has it. He is always spitting up. I actually fed him sweet potatoes the other day & his spit up was orange!! He has never really thrown up... He just has fluid come out and not everything in his tummy.
I took LO to the doctor at about 3 months because he was this way - they informed me that baby had acid reflux, so maybe you should visit your pedi?
