C-sections

When did you return to your normal routine?

In terms of doing housework (vacuuming, mopping, laundry, etc.) after your c/s?Also, how long after your c/s were you able to go for walks in the neighborhood, run errands, etc??

Right now I'm grateful for DH being off work and doing these tasks but he goes back to work next week....

I had a lot of complications after my 1st c/s so I know it was an abnormally long recovery and so I don't have a "normal c/s recovery" time frame to go by.

TIA

  • Around 3 weeks pp. I was sore a little, but overall felt well enough to do these things.

  • I was a rare case I guess..which may have led to my recovery "issue". I was up and walking around the hospital less than 8hrs after my c/s. I did my regular stuff once I got home too. I felt fine other then a little tenderness and a little extra effort in order to get out of bed...so I just started doing what I had always done. About 1week after being home my incision site opened up and started leaking. Another 48hrs in the hospital and I was home and back at it again. You really have to just see what you think your body can handle. Start with simple stuff and if you still feel good go for more.

  • The key is not doing too much too fast.  I was laying really low for the first few days or so and then I started to do laundry.  I gradually added more only if I felt good (or if I felt like it).  Like my mom says, dust isn't going anywhere and it will still be there for me to clean tomorrow. The rule I'm sticking to is the not lifting heavy stuff.

Yesterday, I went on a shopping trip with DH and LO.  We were out for about three hours.  I thought it was a bit much at first, but it was so fun to be out of the house with my family that it actually felt invigorating.   It might sound cheesy, but just listen to yourself.  A c-section, as wonderful as it is, is still surgery!

    Good luck!

  • I'm supposed to do that stuff?!? lol

It was probably around 3w pp. I would do a little every day after a week just to see how I was feeling. Lucas was born in the winter so it was awhile before we took him for walks. I was running short errands the day after we got home from the hospital

  • I think around 2 weeks pp I started driving. Not a lot, only for necessary things like doctor appointments. Around 3 weeks I started doing more around the house, laundry, vaccuming, more regular driving.

I live in an upper level apartment so I had to do stairs from day 1. Like others said though, just listen to your body. Sometimes I would be able to get the laundry in the washer but by the time it was done I was worn out and DH had to finish it up. Or if I had to go to the grocery store I wouldn't be able to vacuum that day.

  • I'm 4 days out and doing some things..not normal routine but I can take care of baby, myself, dishes, laundry, light picking up.  Can't drive til I'm a week out though.
