Blah. I knew it. He is way behind in his speech and language development-at the level of a 3 month old.
The fact that he doesn't babble yet doesn't concern them. The problem is that he has yet to really "coo" and use all of his vowels, let alone consonants. The most Henry has done is grunt by making "mmm" sounds. They also recommend that we get his hearing check to rule out any fluid/blockage. On the other hand, his fine motor skills are excellent (10 month old level) and gross motor skills aren't far behind (7 month old level), it was just the speech development that raised flags.
I know he will catch up, I really do. And they were confident that he will, too. I'm glad he will be getting the help he needs. The therapist said that she just wouldn't feel comfortable signing off on this because of the lack of vowels at this stage.
They said that Henry was in the top ten of fabulous babies they've worked with. He hadn't taken his nap, but he was still a sweet, happy baby and was sure to show them all all of his tricks.
Re: Henry's eligible for Early Intervention
He'll catch up in no time - he's the definition of EARLY intervention!
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
So interesting! I held out until 9+ months to make a referral and Elena will be tested for the same thing next week at 10.5 months. I made a simultaneous hearing and developmental appointment so we'll see what happens. If Elena qualifies well have to compare notes!
IMO it's not even fully for the help at this age, it's just to make sure there's nothing that we're missing, since, like you said, as long as hearing is OK, I know they'll get there.
So sweet about Henry being in the top 10!
I'm glad he'll be getting some assistance too.

Its great that they are being proactive and I too am sure that Henry will "graduate" in no time. Its great news that everything else is right on track.
I'm sure he'll get caught up in no time. And checking his hearing is a really good idea.
EI is THE BEST thing we did for DS and DD.

I hope Henry gets on track quick with this extra help and that his hearing is just fine. I bet he's a little charmer!
He's such a cutie patootie!!
