Upstate NY Babies

Memberships to Museum of Play, etc.

I know we have talked about this before.... but I can't remember.  What is the best membership to get?  I definitely want the Strong Museum of Play, but I seem to remember that there is some other place that you can be a member of for little to no more money and it includes the Museum of Play.

Also - Is there a way I can get a membership for my mom and me instead of dh and me?  DH is pretty home-bound with the baby stage, but my mom takes dd out when she is watching her.  Last year I bought the nanny pass for my mom which I can do again, it just sucks paying for dh when he won't use it at all.

  • Yep.  Get the family membership with you and your mom on it.  You can add DH for $25 under "grandparent" if you choose.

You can get $10 off the membership through the end of October with this code:

FOOTBALL online or mention the ad when you call.  If you want, I can email you the email :)  Let me know.

  • I bought a membership to the Sciencenter in Ithaca for $135.  It includes DH and myself with the kids, and two guests each time we go to the Sciencenter.  PLUS it includes admission to all Play museums AND science museums including RMSC and Museum of Play.  As well as museums in Syracuse, Binghamton, Albany, Utica...  all over.  Some museums honor the two guests and some do not.  I believe the Museum of Play does not, but RMSC does.  We got our membership last March and it has already paid for itself at least 3 times over.  There is something about not honoring the membership at the museum of play for Rochester area residents, but you would be best to call and verify that because it also says there is an exception.
  • Both Ithaca's and Rochester's terms say though that the adults have to be living in the same house.  I do still have my license from when I lived with my parents...but it is expired.  Will it matter we have different addresses?  Or do you think I will run into a problem with an expired license?

They check IDs pretty much every where we go.  In order to get the admission to all the museums, you need to spend over $100 on your membership.  So you would need the extended family ones.  That is about all I know.
