Care Package for Hospital Stay after a C

Hi Everyone!

My SIL is having a scheduled C tomorrow and I want to put together a care package for her to have during recovery at the hospital.  Any ideas for items I should include?  I was thinking magazines, puzzles, chapstick, etc.  What else would you have liked to have with you during recovery?  TIA!

Re: Care Package for Hospital Stay after a C

  • If she is planning on nursing, maybe you could buy her an inexpensive nursing tank much easier than the hospital clothes, but something cheap in case it gets blood from her wound on it. Puzzels I would take off the list because there is no time for anything but sleeping and caring for the new baby. Maybe some light snacks...hospital food sucks. So if she has a favorite snack, and anything she has been craving but could not have while pregnant is good! Nice of you to think of your SIL, she will probably appreciate anything!

  • I agree to take the puzzles off the list, I didn't even read the two magazines I brought with me.  also agree with the snacks and other thoughts would be chapstick, hand lotion, body wash and soft wash cloth, slippers/flip flops.  I also drank a ton of water and was very happy to have my reusable water cup with me so a pretty new cup might be fun.

very thoughtful!  you are a great friend!

  • My hospital food was great but my favourite thing at the hospital was when my best friend showed up with my favourite dinner.
  • I would definitely go with yummy, healthy food.  I'm pretty sure I ate virtually nothing at the hospital, and it wasn't good for me or my milk coming in.  Maybe some home made banana muffins and a veggie tray?

  • A cute insulated water cup(maybe one with her intial on it)

A monogrammed blanket for the baby

    bottled water

    cupcakes

Bath and Body Works giftset or lotions and soaps

    hand sanitizer

    her favorite coffee and pastry

    her favorite meal

  • Depending on when you get to visit her you could take along a digital camera and then stop at Target/Walmart to get a few prints printed. Then later in the day drop them off at the hospital. If visiting hours are over it would be something you could likely leave at the nurses station to have sent down to her room. I had tons of pictures taken while I was there but I loved that my SIL took time to get a few printed and brought them back!

As for recovery items: chapstick, lip gloss, some snacks and favorite drink- bottled pop, flavored water, Vitamin Water or something like that!

  • My list includes a cute robe with matching slippers (for walking around the hospital floor), chapstick, a lightly-scented fragrance to help boost her mood, and some amazingly decadent pastry!

  • Thank you so much for the ideas ladies!  I know how much recovery in the hospital sucks and it must suck so much more after a C.  I ended up getting her really comfy fluffy slippers, minty lip gloss, Godiva chocolates, anti-bacterial hand lotion from Bath and Body, scented lotion and body wash, a fluffy shower poof thingy, emory boards (I remember wanting to file my jagged nails for some reason lol), and a pretty cup.  Hope it helps to make her stay a little more comfortable.  Thanks again!

  • Snacks!  We ran out of all the snacks we packed and you forget what its like to not be able to walk into a kitchen and help yourself whenever you want.  We wasted way too much money in vending machines and a local pizza place.

  • Inexpensive slippers!  They get gross walking around room and bathroom so it is nice to be able to throw them out at end of stay.  I love the photo idea!!!  I agree- I had NO time to read a magazine.  I was too busy talking on the phone and with visitors!  Nice hand lotion sounds good too.  I like the idea about bringing dinner to the room one night.  When I was on hospital bedrest, one of my girlfriends brought fancy cheeses and crackers along with hummus, guacamole and dips one night.  It was amazing since for 4 weeks all i ate was delivery food, take out that someone picked up for me and hospital food.  I missed appetizers!

  • how nice of you! i wish i had one of those!

magazines, chapstick, lansinoh cream (if brestfeeding), sleeping mask, head band, disposable camera?, travel size lotion, travel size brush, couple hair bands, nail file...

and if you want to be even nicer than you are now, get her a belly band (dunno if the hospital will provide one) that will help her out SO much after delivery Smile
