IVF Poll: Recovery from ER

Amuse me ladies :)  ER is on Monday.  I told my boss that I'll be taking the week (as I do bed rest for 3dp 3dt).  My first retrieval was ROUGH and I needed the time off between the ER and ET to recover.  I also had no sedation - crappy morphine only. This time I'll have fentynal (sp?) or twilight sedation.

So, what type of sedation did you have and how long was your recovery ie when did you go back to work?

Re: IVF Poll: Recovery from ER

  • I don't know what my sedation was called but I know I was knocked out from an IV - don't remember anything from the procedure. I had to go back to work the next day and was pretty crampy and sore and tired.

  • Both times, I had twilight sedation. I was ready to go back to work a few hours later, but I waited until the next morning.
  • What the heck - that's amazing.  I could barely walk right up until my ET!

  • I had twilight sedation. I took day of/day after ER. I wasn't feeling great when I came back, but I had alot of work to do and would rather have worked then than after ET. I think I took 4dpt off then.

  • I'm not sure what kind of sedation I had, but it was through an IV and it took immediate effect and I can't remember anything other than waking up in the recovery area. It was good stuff!!

For 2 of my 3 egg retrievals, I've gone back to work the following day. For one, I had some complications and had to spend two days in the hospital then another two days at home.

  • I was out cold so I don't know what level that is - something they administer through the IV.  I took off the day of ER and the day after.  I was crampy the day I went to work, but nothing worse than AF cramps.  I then took off the day of ET and the day after that.

  • I was heavily sedated, but don't know what the meds were called. I was completely out of it until the last few minutes, I could feel the "instruments" in me. It was kind of a creepy feeling. I was out for two days of work and was so drained, but felt fine thereafter.
  • I also got twilight sedation and was able to go back to work the next day.  For IVF #1, we went out to dinner and to see Avenue Q and wound up being up all night in the ER for DH.  I accused him of stealing my thunder.  I managed to rest for the other two but wasn't too crampy.  I didn't need anything other than extra strength tylenol.

Sorry your first one was such a rough time.  Hopefully this will be easier.

  • For my 1st 2 I had no sedation, just dilaudid which is a pain killer. ?For my 3rd, I had twilight sedation with fentanyl. ?For all 3, I felt OK the day of my ER but took the full day anyway. ?I was back at work the next day.

  • I had Twilight sedatiation I was a little uncomfortable during the procedure but don't really remember it.  I didn't do anything for the rest of the day just slept on the couch off and on all day.

I was able to go back to work the next day, but I sit at a desk for most of the time so I'm not very active.  My mid section was sore for about 3 days after the ER.  It even hurt to sneeze, cough and laugh.  I'm doing much better now.

I also rested on ETday and was able to go to work the next day.  I have no pain associated with the ET.  Just bloating and pain from the PIO shots.
