I am having a scheduled c-section in 8 weeks, which will be my second and last baby. I gained 35 lbs last pregnancy and lost all but 15 lbs by the time I got pregnant again, but I'm fairly small-- 5'2". I have no idea how much weight I've gained this time (I haven't wanted to know) but I think I'm on par with last pregnancy. I never lost that annoying tummy flap after having my last son, and now I am absolutely terrified of a) what I'm going to look like once this baby is born and b) it being impossible to get back to a good place. I'm not one of those naturally thin people, I have to work very hard to maintain a small frame, so I guess I feel like the odds are stacked against me.
Anyone share their success story? How did you do it? Nursing didn't go well with us last time, so I have no idea if that's going to be an added bonus to weightloss or not.
I guess I just need to hear that there is hope. I've gotten a lot of "wow you're huge" comments lately and it's really getting me down--- there's nothing I can do about my baby bump and I'm doing the best I can.
Thanks ladies.
Re: Moms of 2+- share your success stories?
To get your hips back on order and to help support your tummy I HIGHLY suggest a post partum support belt (the wide ones). I?m a firm believer of the support belts b/c after 2 babies I?m still in my size 4/6 jeans with a 6 pack. (I have a 5?2? frame and I also gain 30 to 35 with each pregnancy). My girlfriend of 4 boys has worn one after every baby and never changed her pant size either.
As for the tummy? good luck? it took me about a year to lose all my weight and skin to shrink back down. I still have a little flab but I guess that comes with the BIG OL? BELLY. (I BF also and keep about 5 or 10 extra pounds until weaning)
Dont worry about the "huge" remarks the belly on our 5'2" frames is quite sexy and we cant hide it like taller and larger women can.
Good luck!
WIth DS1 I gained 73lbs; I had such bad swelling and polyhydramnios due to his birth defect. I lost all but 7lbs within a year, I did nothing. Just getting back to my usual semi-active lifestyle was enough.
With DS2 I gained 66lbs; I had polyhydramnios again and a 10lb. baby. I have lost all but 5lbs in just 8 weeks. This time around I am on Livestrong.com using My Plate DAILY! I also started working out very slowly at 5 weeks pp. I am now nearly full speed on my workouts, and I envision that I will complete my weightloss goal in my ticker within the next 4 months.
I gained about 30lbs with DD and lost all but 10 before getting pregnant with DS. I think I gained about 30 with DS too. About 15 months after having DS I still had 10ish to lose to get down to my weight prior to DD. I wasn't really wanting to diet before then because I was nursed him up to a year. I was then able to lose 20+lbs in 4 months and get down to 10lbs below where I started with DD.
The biggest factor for me was watching what I ate. I started tracking what I ate using www.sparkpeople.com. I was a fairly healthy eater, but wasn't good at portion control. Tracking my calories really made me realize where I could make significant improvements. I also exercise regularly, but I've always been pretty good with exercising. Changing my diet is what made the most difference.
