Georgia Babies

It's been a long 14 days.

Baby Ethan was born on Oct 5th. Since then we have been at or in a hospital 12 of those days. At first he had jaundice. He was put on a bili bed for a few days and then we had to go in for blood draws to check his levels. This past Friday we finally we told we didn't need to go in anymore.

Hooray, right? Wrong... Saturday night into Sunday morning Ethan developed a fever of 102.2. I called the pedi and they sent us to the nearest ER. We were transported and admitted to CHOA for 3 days. The dr tested for a number of things. Turns out he has viral meningitis. It was beyond heartbreaking to watch my 10 day old baby have a spinal tap and an IV in his arm. I cried and cried and cried. I am pretty sure the hospital staff thought I was going to lose it. He was treated with antibiotics for 3 days. Luckily he didn't have bacterial meningitis so we were released yesterday. The drs told us the virus just needed to run it course.

Unfortunately we ended up back at CHOA ER last night with another fever. The ER dr said that was normal with viral meninigtis. He sent us home, thankfully. We are now back home trying to get some rest. The past 14 days has been really crazy. I am so ready for some down time without hospital visits.

I know many of you have been sending your thoughts and prayers. I really appreciate it. We have needed them.

  • I know you've been through so much the past several days.  Hopefully Ethan is on the right track now.  I completely understand how you feel about the spinal tap.  My Ethan had one when he was 2 months old and it was absolutely heart breaking.
