He can't sleep with baby crying and then me feeding in bed. Plus baby is super noisy (how long does that grunting sleep noise last for?? it's kind of annoying!!!)
For the first 3 months of LO's life, well actually the past 2 (First 3 wks he was in the NICU, and slept in his crib a week or two after that) ...he pretty much slept on the couch with me. After I had to stop BFing/pumping I would snuggle DS instead of putting him in his crib to pump and after that we basically spent every night on the couch. That was the only place he could sleep, and we tried a co sleeper but he'd wake up and it just wasnt fair to DH who had to work every morning.
This past week though we transitioned DS to his swing/crib at night. I recommend Happiest Baby on the Block (book/dvd). Changed our lives! haha And yeah I am now back in my own bed with DH.. it feels good!

DH & I haven't slept together in almost 7 months. Once I hit third tri, I couldn't sleep in our bed w/o waking up w/ major back pain. I moved into the guest room (much firmer mattress) & DD moved in w/ me when she came home. DH is a VERY light sleeper & would never get any rest if DD and I were nursing in the same room w/ him. We'll transition DD to her crib before I return to work so the midnight feedings will be less intrusive.
We purchased a bassinet that was right beside my side of the bed. This helped tremendously. If our son woke up, I was right there. It might help if your husband traded off getting up with your LO.
We have only slept in the same bed when guests stay over... and DH never sleeps well when we do. I switch back and forth between the couch and our bed and DH just sleeps in the opposite place. DD is super noisy, too... except for when she sleeps ON me, which she has been doing the past couple of nights all night because she won't fall asleep otherwise (it's a PITA). I never planned on co-sleeping but that is exactly what happened.
I can't wait till we have our bed back but it probably won't be for some time. I get up with DD at night since DH gets up at 4 am to go to work and I am EBF. I think it will be quite a while before I see any big changes in that area
His work schedule is insane. Some days he's in at 5 AM, other days he doesn't go in until 4 PM. Having to switch from a day shift to a night shift is rough for him, so he often moves out to the couch if DS's noises are bothering him.
He also needs the TV to fall asleep, and I don't want it on in our room while DS is sleeping there, too. So if he's having a hard time falling asleep, he goes back to the living room.
We only sleep in bed together for about an hour total between baby shifts. I go to bed around 11 or 12 and DH stays up with him through night feedings (he's a night owl anyway and works from home), sleeps on the couch for a few hours, then he comes to bed around 6 or 7 where we can both sleep together until about 8 when DS wakes up and I have to nurse. I've tried bringing him back to bed with me after I nurse or putting him in his own bed but we've sort of made a habit of snuggling in the morning. Plus he is a very noisy sleeper! He grunts for about an hour before he is actually ready to wake up.

Wow. I guess I should be glad that I'm the only one who hears DS in the middle of the night. With all of the changes that come with having a new baby, I can't imagine not being able to sleep in the same bed with my DH on top of that! I didn't know it was so common. DS makes the same annoying grunting noises that you are talking about, but DH hears nothing...he doesn't even hear him when he cries.

This completely!!! DS screamed for 20 one night (was having tummy pains), and DH heard absolutely nothing.. it can be annoying sometimes but I couldn't imagine not sleeping in the same bed!!
We're still in the same bed...but we don't have any rooms left - they are all filled with kids, lol!!!! I slept on the couch for about 3 weeks with all three newborns though.

This for me too!! Thank goodness for a DH who is a deep sleeper I guess, it means we can still share a bed... although mine is also a loud sleeper, sometimes I don't know who is louder, little grunter over the monitor or big lug next to me... at one point last night DH was breathing so loudly I didn't hear DS over the monitor!
I haven't shared a bed with H in years. He has his own room because he snores like a maniac. LO has been in her nursery for about a week now. It's nice to have my room all to myself again :]

DH and I are both in our bed together and DD sleeps in her crib. I'm really grateful that she sleeps so well in her nursery so early on and DH and I can be in our own room. We started out having her in a bassinet next to my side of the bed and I couldn't sleep at all because I freaked out whenever she made a noise thinking she wasn't breathing right. Now I wake up to nurse her in her nursery and DH doesn't wake up so it works out well.

I love this post. It makes me feel so much better. DH and I haven't been sharing a bed for the longest time. With a bad back, he sleeps better on the couch. I miss having him next to me, but honestly, I sleep so much better without him there. We actually slept in the bed for the first time since LO, and I had a hard time sleeping in between feedings. At least we aren't the only couple going through this.
