We are moving in a couple weeks. DS turned 2 last month. I'm looking for any tips to make it a smoother transition for all, but particularly DS. We talk about the new house a lot and we will be going over there lots to paint etc before we actually move. We also have a book called "Moving House" that DS loves. Other than that, any ideas on how to do this as painlessly as possible?
Re: Moving with a 2 yr old - need tips
We just recently moved our 3 year old to a new place and he was great with it. We just talked to him about his new house all the time. My parents kept him over the weekend so we could pack his room and then unpack his room at our new place so it was all set for him. When he arrived, he was great. His room was all set up and all his things were there for him to play with.
I would suggest him not seeing your pack his room up, because he may think you are getting rid of all this things. If possible, see if anyone can watch him. That was the best thing for us.
We just moved with our 2yr old (26 months) and she did great with it. Any time anyone comes over to our house we tell her to show them her new room. She loves it! Shes slept in her bed since the first night all by herself. We also just transitioned her from a toddler bed to a full size bed and it has not been an issue at all.
kids are resiliant and will amaze you at how well they deal with change.
