I live in Austin but grew up in Houston. My 3mth old has been having some issues and the Childrens hospital here wasn't able to help so we want a second option. The Katy campus was not there when we where living there.
Which campus do you suggest? Is there really any difference besides parking being free at Katy and you have to pay downtown?
TIA, we are headed that way this morning.
Re: Texas Children's Hospital Katy or Downtown?
Facilities matter less to me than the talent they hold. Obviously, the facility needs to have the right equipment - beyond that it is the talent that matters. You can always start at one place and end up somewhere else (like in your case), if the issue needs a different opinion.
Friends with complex situations have gone across hospitals to get answers from the right individuals. Sometimes that can take time to find that person or team.
My pediatrician usually guides us based on the specialist we need and her own opinions. I think she keeps up on who is working where to inform the choice.
Does your pediatrician have a preference or recommendation?
Good luck. TCH has good care. Memorial/Hermann also has a Children's Hospital to mine, if you need more. I hope it is nothing serious or is something that get put right quickly.
I had a great experience at the Katy location when we had to treat my 5 day old baby for jaundice. We were taken in through the ER.
I live much closer to the med center but drove to Katy for faster service, free parking, etc. The days we were there, there were only 4 other patients in the entire hospital. This was 2 months ago.
