Parenting after 35

What did you do for your 40th?

:le sigh: we moved cross-country and we're not close to any family or friends.  I'm kinda bummed I won't get to "party"... and kinda bummed DH can't plan a surprise party for me (haha).  My bday is between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

eh, shouldn't be a big deal, really... guess we put a lot emphasis on "milesone" birthdays.  I'll just have to party it up with DH and DS!

Take a chance. Take a risk. Take the initiative. Make your wishes a reality and make your dreams come true!

I went to Florida with my BFF, who turned 40 right after me. Can you make a plan to go somewhere with your friends from back home?  At least if you have a plan set in place, it will make the day enjoyable.

  • We left DS w/ my parents and went to NYC for a 3 day weekend.

We were totally content to go if it were just the 2 of us, but we picked NYC because it's in driving distance and in January, we were able to find a hotel at a decent price.  We were HOPING a couple people might decide to join us.

In the end, there were 11 of us total, and it was a blast.

  • DH and I flew to California.  Spent two days in San Francisco and two days in Napa. The wine!  The food!  LOVE.  Also got to visit with a friend who recently moved there, so he spent the weekend with us hitting the wineries.  Fantastic get-away.

  • Can't remember, so it wasn't anything spectacular.  Probably went to Red Lobster or something! :)

  • I didn't do anything particularly special.  So few people believe me when I tell them my age, that I kind of like keeping it on the DL.

Some close friends went out to dinner with DH and me, and DH and I saw a movie earlier in the day.

  • I don't tend to do much for my bdays and prefer low key stuff anyway.  DH's cousin is in town for that weekend only so his whole family is getting together.  I will probably offer to host which means I will likely cook.  Eh.  We'll celebrate the night before with the family dinner I wanted.

  • DD#2 was born April 29th (this year) and I turned 40 on May 7th. So I pretty much laid around. Stick out tongue

  • I turned 40 the last weekend before I returned from maternity leave. I was still so tired, we just went to dinner with family. DH is horrible at planning anything so that was the best he could come up with.

I have informed him that the 50th WILL be something special.

  • Honestly? Not much. We had just moved to a new city and didn't know anyone so it was really low key. I remember my mom sent me 40 roses and I think DH took me out to dinner but it must have been very uneventful b/c I can't remember! How bad is that? I really don't want to celebrate birthdays anymore, lol, I stopped counting at 35 ;)

  • We did it up.  Small surprise party and a week in Paris.  Awesome memories.
  • My 40th is a year and a half away, and already I'm sad about it.  Not for the usual reasons (that happened when I turned 30) but because DH will be on the other side of this planet, in Qatar...He'll be 10 months in by that point.
