When do you plan to

pack your hospital bag and install your car seat?

With all these posts about preterm labor, I'm starting to wonder exactly when I should start preparing!

sorry if this has been already discussed recently. I tried to look back several weeks to catch up on what I've missed while I've been MIA but didn't see anything.

 Thanks ladies!

Re: When do you plan to

  • I'm packing my bag around 37 or 38 weeks.

I'm getting the car seat installed ASAP. Honestly, I just want it in my car so it's out of my house. I know it's early.

This. I have been walking around that carseat for a couple of weeks now. I need to get the hubby on installing it and out of the nursery.

  • 36ish weeks, around Thanksgiving for both. We live close to the hospital so I can always have H run back for something, or to put the carseat in.

  • preterm labor is freaking me out too.. i have DH doing all the projects around the house we thought we had time to finish, ordered my replacement parts for my pump, washed all the clothes i already have & bought her mattress. • I'm planning on having Dh install the bases in my car and his this weekend - to get it out of our dining room, and to check it off my list! The hospital bag is half packed- I need to pickup some undies/sport bras for it.

  • I have a history of PTL and am currently taking the progesterone shots, but I figured if I prepared ahead of time then that would ward off early labor too (reverse psychology on the baby lol) I have started having false labor...which is super annoying. Super annoying and painful, but steady and only lasting for 2 hours and then stops...so I've packed the hospital bags and the boys' backpacks just in case so I'm not scrambling at the last minute. My last labor was 2 1/2 hours from start to finish, and we now live 1 hour away from the hospital and I do not want to miss my epidural! :) I also put the carseat base in the truck already, mainly to see if I would need to arrange my other two carseats or not, but also just in case. I haven't put the actual infant seat in it yet....I think it will be tight quarters when I do so I'm trying to wait for that as long as possible. Anyway, I think it's always fun and exciting when you start getting this stuff ready, makes it feel more real.

  • When I was in the hospital last week these were the first two things that went through my head.  So this past weekend the bag was packed.  We will be installing the car seat this weekend....well, the base at least. Since the doc's are telling me 37 weeks will be my cut off I don't have but just over 3 weeks to go.

  • We will be installing the base today but mostly just to figure out how to arrange carseats.  Our three girls are all still in 5pt harness seats and we carpool with one other family for preschool so we have to fit five 5pt carseats in our minivan.

  • I will probably pack my bag at about 36-37 weeks.  If I went into PTL then I could always have a friend, my mom or DH get some things around for me.

As for the carseat, it is on our registry and I have my 1st shower this weekend, the second on Nov 6th and the third on Nov 13th, so we are hoping to recieve this as a gift, if not we will purchase it after the shower and install the base in my vehicle immediately after we get it.

  • I'll probably start packing my bag around 36 weeks and I'll put the car seat base in probably the night before my c-section.  And if for some reason I have the baby before my scheduled c-section, DH can just run home to get what I need cause we live like 5 mins from the hospital.

  • I'm planning on installing the car seat around 36 weeks.  I'll probably start gathering stuff for the hospital bags around the same time with the goal of being almost completely packed by 37 weeks.

I'm thinking this, too. I haven't had my shower yet, so there's no car seat to install.

  • Probably the first week of December for packing my bag.

The second week of December for installing the car seat. By then I'll be done with commuting. With the way traffic is around here, I'm shocked I haven't gotten rear-ended multiple times, so I want to wait until the chances are slimmer that I'll be in an accident.

  • Want to hear something funny - my hubby had absolutely NO idea that he had to install the carset ahead of time!!!!!!!!!!! I brought this up to him and he was totally like WTF?!?  I told him they won't let us leave with the baby unless it's properly installed ;) what was he thinking!?! I'm just going to hold her in my arms all the way home? HAHAHA

My shower isn't until the 2nd week of Nov, but I recieved a carseat/base early! (from a dear friend who is currently living in Hong Kong and won't be at my shower...He wasn't sure when I was due so he went ahead and picked out a BEAUTIFUL Chicco set (he REALLY did his research!) and had it sent to me! It was a total surprise when I recieved 2 huge boxes last week - I couldn't even carry it...Very excited though..my 1st baby gift <33 And now I can check that off of my registry list!)

Anyways....I was thinking of packing my hospital bag in Nov....I'm sooo afraid of going into labor earlier than my due date and then not have my bag prepared....better safe than sorry! Plus, I'm sure as my date creeps closer, my mind will be on 1000 other things.

  • 1.5 weeks ago my doctor told me that I should pack my bag and install the car seat within the next 2 weeks just in case. I have done neither. Actually we don't even own a car seat yet. My thoughts were, if I have the baby now it'll be in NICU and I (or DH) will be able to go get a carseat. And DH will need to come home so he can grab anything I need *procrastinator*. I think I am going to order 1 of our carseats and leave it in the box, I want the black friday deals if they have them! And my shower isn't until Nov 19th....

  • First week of November. We just want to get them in the car so we can forget about them and they'll be ready to roll when we are. :)
  • I need to pack my bag soon.  The problem is I'm on bed rest and need dh's help on so many things, that is just not the top of the list.  Also, a lot of my clothes that I am bringing to the hospital, I've been wearing around the house so they all need washed and I don't want to put all my comfy clothes in a bag where I can't use them.

Carseat is going in as soon as someone gives my car a good cleaning.  Again, I would do this but bed rest forbids it.  So, whenever someone else can help me out.

  • I'll probably back my bag at 35-36 weeks. I am having one shower this weekend and another at 35 weeks, so we are waiting to see if anyone buys our car seat. That makes me a little nervous, but we can always send someone out to buy it should LO decide to make his appearance early.

  • I'll probably pack my bag around 35-36 weeks. I don't think we'll install the car seat until the day we leave the hospital. My daughter is still rear-facing in her car seat, and I want to leave her rear-facing as long as possible. I can't fit two rear-facing seats in my car, so I don't want to install the other car seat until necessary.

  • The car seat was installed last weekend because I heard it might be a bit complicated with my car and I wanted to get it out of the way, although I'm just leaving the base in the car until d-day. Thankfully we got it figured out. Still need to get it inspected though.

The bag I am less worried about, although I do need to at least make a packing and shopping list soon. We live 6 minutes from the hospital and plan to labor at home for a while, so I'm not too worried about having every single little thing ready. Having a list ready will at least allow DH to do most of the packing at the last minute if need be.

I was just telling DH yesterday that we honestly have the bare necessities ready for LO... carseat installed, clothing, diapers, a sleeping space and my boobs! The rest is just gravy! Haha.

  • I told DH I want the carseat in by 36 weeks.  I will be done babysitting then, so we won't need the extra convertible seat in the car, and we had one just before 36 weeks once, so I want to be prepared.  As far as a hospital bag, I'll throw in the baby's things (outfits, onesies, hats, etc.), but nothing of mine will go in till we are going to the hospital.  I had way too much stuff when I packed ahead of time the first time, and it worked out better for us with DS to throw what we need in the bag while waiting for the sitter.  I had a scheduled induction with #3, so I packed most of it the night before, then threw my toiletries in when we left that morning.  We live less than a mile from the hospital, so if we need anything else, DH will run home for it.

  • Thanks ladies! I don't feel as behind anymore! We live 30-40 minutes away from the hospital and my husband may or may not be here when I go into labor (whether she arrives early or on time) so I am trying to be overly prepared for whatever scenario may occur. I too have been walking around the carseats for weeks and really just want to get them out of the way but don't want to be ridiculous and install them too early, haha!

  • I plan to do it all after my baby shower (November 13) simply because I have an old car seat from my DD that expires Dec 31, 2011.  I'm waiting to see if I get a car seat for my shower, and if not I'll buy a new one and pack my hospital bag around the same time.

  • I'm 32 weeks today - I've already started the hospital bag, and will hopefully have it completed in a week or so. For the carseat, I think I'll wait until 36 weeks, so around Thanksgiving like a lot PP :)
