Pregnant after a Loss

No symptoms on Prometrium?

I have been taking 200mg orally for 8 days. I read about all of these awful side-effects that are common... and I have none. Well untrue... I sometimes get that dizzy/heavy-headed feeling but that has kind of gone away in the past 3 nights.

I am VERY restless during the night, waking up 2-3, sometimes 4, times a night to re-adjust. I  generally feel achey in my lower back. From what I read, it normally knocks most people out??

Anyone else not have any side-effects from it?? I'm worried something isn't working right. :

Re: No symptoms on Prometrium?

  • I took 200 mg orally before bed from 2DPO through BFP (then was switched to once a week shots).  I never felt much different from normal.  I went to sleep as usual and still re-adjusted during the night as usual.

  • I wasn't on Prometrium, but I did use progesterone suppositories (Crinone).  I had no side effects, the only annoyance was the mess.  I did feel uncomfortable and have a lot of restless nights even early in my pregnancy, so I think that is pretty common.  The progesterone did not make me any more tired or help me have an easier time sleeping.

I would say that having no side effects is actually a good thing.  Try not to read too much into it.  You could always ask to have your progesterone levels checked if you are nervous, but I think taking the supplement pretty much guarantees that your levels stay elevated.  The part of the effectiveness that all doctors don't agree on is whether low progesterone is a cause of miscarriage or a consequence of a miscarriage, which is why you hear some controversy about the effectiveness of progesterone supplementation.

  • I agree with Busterbeagle...having no side effects is actually a good thing.  If you read the package insert that come with many medications, they have to list all the different reported side-effects and how many people reported those during the drug's trial period.  If you had a headache and mentioned it, that could be reported as a side effect...even if your headache had nothing to do with the medication and was due to stress.  So take those side effects as a word of caution but not that all people will experience them.
  • I never experienced s/e.

But, I'm also one of those people who don't get many pg symtoms (I think they are related). Hopefully you'll dodge the pg symptom bullet too!

Makes sense! I really do read so much into things. But y'all are right! I'll try to happily take my side-effectless self and not worry. :P

Thanks you guys! Feeling better this morning. There's something about evenings that always make me feel more worried... then in the mornings, I feel better again. :)

  • I don't really have any either.  I have noticed that I've been waking up through out the night, but that is about it.  I normally have lower back pain and have only been slightly fatigued with this pregnancy so I don;t really count that as a side effect.  Have you been on prometrium before?  Is it possible that you are used to it?

  • I'm taking 400 and I don't have any symptoms from it that I know. I was thinking with such a high dose that I would be experiencing insane symptoms, but I've had nothing.

  • I'm also on 200 mg orally and have very few symptoms.  I've been restless at night like you, had one or two dizzy spells which disappear quickly, and have sore bb's (which have been a constant for me with each pregnancy and this is my first round on prometrium which i am seriously hoping does the trick for us!!)  First ultrasound is next Thursday so fingers are tightly crossed for good things but I find it strangely comforting to know others have these same freak outs.  I guess that's the life of pgal...

    best of luck to you!!
