Bowel Movement?

How long did it take you to have a bowel movement?  It's been 6 days now and I haven't been able to go.  I'm taking stool softeners and am now on a laxative prescribed by a doctor.  Just wanted to see how long its taken everyone else.

Re: Bowel Movement?

  • It took me five days.  And it wasn't nearly as scary as I was anticipating.

  • Three or four days later, and it wasn't as bad as I had expected. Keep taking your softeners.
  • I had a loose one the day after my c section. Then one normal one the day we went home from the hospital.

  • It took me about 5 days.  I didn't think the stool softeners my dr. prescribed worked very well.  I finally took 2 in one day to try to speed things along.  Drinking lots of water might help...
  • 3 days. I can't stress enough...take the stool softeners for as long as you're on pain meds and even a few days after. The meds are very constipating and take awhile to work through your system. Continue to drink lots and lots of water and increase fiber. I had soooo many long-term issues after my first, I wouldn't wish them on anyone!
  • I had mine when I was still in the hospital, so it was less than 4 days. DRINK your water!!

  • I think it was the next day or two after the surgery.

  • i went the 2nd day while still in the hospital.  make sure you are eating high fiber foods and don't be afraid to go--it was so much easier than the entire 9 months of constipation i dealt with.  also--oatmeal once a day really helps me!

  • It was day 7 I think-- and HORRIBLE. I had been on stool softeners the entire time, but apparently they weren't working. I ended up having to take a suppository, ugh and that definitely worked within minutes, but it was awful to say the least. Once I went, things went back to normal (though I continued with the stool softener).

  • I think it tooke me about a week.  It wasn't that bad.  I upped my fiber intake.  Just like everyone says, drink water and take the stool softeners.

  • I think it was 5 days, and it was so terrible!    I was in pain with a poop stuck for an entire day, and could NOT go no matter how much I tried. I had to take a suppository (not as bad as I had anticipated) and it worked in about an hour.  Don't be afraid to take one, if you need to.  6 days is a long time.  :(

  • It probably took me a week or so and I forgot to take my stool softners!  OUCH!  I just can't even describe the pain!!!  Take your stool softeners, eat fiber and drink tons of water!

  • it took about a week and was one of the worst experiences ever. I thought I was going to have to go to the hospital for it. Ugg. Definitely going to be more careful about it this time.
