Success after IF

Am I the only one who hates sparkly shoes?

Seriously. I just want to purchase regular, non sparkly, non obnoxious tennis shoes for my child.

We love Ked's, and she mostly always wears white Ked's to school and whatnot...but I'd love for her to have a little variety in her day to day shoes. She has a gazillion pairs of church shoes (Mary Jane's for the most part), but our everyday or play shoes are sort of limited...especially since I won't buy her sequined, sparkly, fugly tennis shoes.

Everywhere I go, there are TONS of light up, sparkly, character themed shoes for girls...and I just hate them. Am I alone here?

I am about to order her a pair of super plain tennis shoes from Zappos...for $32...simply because I can't find any other decent looking, semi-plain, cute tennis shoes for my toddler.

So frustrating!

Re: Am I the only one who hates sparkly shoes?

  • hahaha, i have always kinda liked sparkle...stuff like that brings me back to when i was a kid myself, and i LOVED that crap :) As for the character stuff, i really hated it at first, and tried so hard to avoid it...then the boys got this little thing called free will, hahaha...when we switched from summer to fall last year they flat out REFUSED to put on anything but sandals :P until i let them pick out which ever sneakers THEY wanted, ronnie slept with his light up fire truck shoes that night :)

now they have buzz lightyear, lightening mcqueen, dora and princess shoes, and i have let go...because do appreciate that they LOVE these things, and it makes them happy. I limit the character stuff they wear, but i allow it, because they like having a choice in the matter, whether i like it or not ;)

all that said there are a few really cute simple plain shoes (we had a cute dark pink pair, and i saw some plain white) at stride rite, we got them at the outlet for 19.99...this was before little miss gave a dang ;)

  • I hate anything with characters on it or that lights up. Claire has a pair of black sparkle mary janes from Pediped that are cute.

I am not a fan of any tennis shoes- Claire has one pair of kinda tennis shoes from See Kai Run they are pink and cream, but honeslty they kinda look like bowling shoes and they were more then $32- so note sure if those would be an option for you, but they are really cute! She wears them with jeans, other then that she only wears mary janes, she really doesn't have any outfits that tennis shoes would even go with.

  • I love sparkly Keds!  The silver ones with sequins are so awesome!!  I want to buy Penny so many cute shoes!

The licensed character gear is out of control though.  What can't you get with Cars on it?  Or Disney Princesses?

Have you tried Payless for shoes?  Are converse all stars out of the question? Or vans?

  • YES! Yes, yes.

I'm a sparkly shoe AND tutu hater.

    Yep. That's me.

  • I'm not a fan either!  However, Stella does have a pair of red sparkle shoes she wore to her b-day party.  We're reusing them this Halloween and she's going to be Dorothy.

I'm really not a fan of licensed character stuff but figure if my girls want to wear them, it's not something I'm going to fight too much.  I figure it will be short-lived with how quickly their minds change about what they like.

What about a cute pair of Converse?  Stella is all about her pink Chucks these days.  They are super cute, casual and go with just about everything she owns (especially since she refuses to wear anything but pink right now)!

  • Oh... you just wait! My DD is nearly two and a half and she has VERY strong opinions about what she'll wear. She tossed herself on the floor today and refused pants because I wanted her to wear jeans instead of leggins. As for shoes, she's ok not wearing super sparkly ones - but she does have this pair of white and black mary janes (from Target) that she wants to wear at ALL TIMES. She refers to them as her "La La" shoes.

Sigh, girls are tough. My son, who is five and a half, still doesn't care, at all, what he wears.
  • I hate character shoes and shoes that light up. Not my style at all.  DD does have a pair like that at my ILs house that they bought for her and keep at their house in case she needs a change of shoes.

As for sparkles...I love them!  DD owns 3 pairs of Lelli Kelly shoes, they don't have sparkles but they are very bedazzled with sequins.  She LOVES her "Lellis" and she enjoys picking out a pair to wear each day.  My flats have bedazzles on them too so the apple doesn't fall far from the tree in the shoe department!

She has red patent leather Primigi mary jane shoes and then a sporty looking pair that are black leather with a double strap.  Annnnnddd brown suede boots from the Gap.  She doesn't have any actual tennis shoes.

  • Avi just wears either sandals or Mary Janes from See Kai Run that my mom or I get on their 50%+ sale page.  Avoiding sparkles all together.  :)

Yep, Hannah is always wearing my shoes around the house (or at least attempting to wear them when it comes to the high heels) so I think it's natural that she would have a similar shoe style.  I've never tried TOMS but they look sooooo comfy and I love that they have them for kids too.  You and Penny could get meatching pairs:)
