Repeat c/s questions

My second LO will be a repeat c/s (I am not a good candidate for VBAC).

I have a couple of questions:

1.  Was your recovery better or worse the second time around?

2.  If you got sick from the meds in your spinal, is there a way to avoid that this time?  Besides having a double dose of the anti-nausea drugs.

3.  Anything else I should know?  Or look out for?

Re: Repeat c/s questions

  • I can't help you with the spinal question because I didn't get sick from it but I can tell you that my recovery was a lot easier this time around.  My 1st was unplanned after several hours of labor so that took a huge toll on my body.  I was so incredibly exausted and emotionally drained for weeks after my c/s.

This time it was scheduled and everything went very smooth and it was really easy.  I felt sore but overall I felt pretty good afterwards and I wasn't as tired because I didn't go through labor.

My second LO will be a repeat c/s (I am not a good candidate for VBAC).

I have a couple of questions:

    1.  Was your recovery better or worse the second time around?Just had my RCS a week ago and it has been sooo much better than my 1st! My 1st wasn't scheduled (induced and labored w/ twins then had to convert to c/s) and I had a horrible recovery--excessive bleeding and then serious clotting issues. This time, aside from the normal pain you have from having surgery, it's been a lot easier and far less complications.

    2.  If you got sick from the meds in your spinal, is there a way to avoid that this time?  Besides having a double dose of the anti-nausea drugs. I got sick with my first c/s (but didn't get any anti-nausea meds). I did get a generous dose of them this time and didn't have any vomiting or nausea afterwards.

    3.  Anything else I should know?  Or look out for?

This time around, they gave me compression socks and some kind of blow-up device that inflated/deflated around my calves for the first night after my RCS. Supposedly it helps with the risk of blood clots.  Also, I had no idea how long and painful it would be to have a first BM after my 1st c/s--so this time around, I made sure to start up stool softners as soon as I could and drank plenty of fluids!

    GL with your RCS!!

  • My recovery has been worse - but I hemorrhaged 10 hours after delivery and needed an emergent d&c. Due to that, I am way more sore than I was the first time and way more exhausted(due to anemia). I had horrible nausea and vomiting the first time. This time they gave me less of the narcotic and 3 different nausea meds. It helped some, I still got sick - mostly when they tried to have me get up, it may have been partly related to the bleeding though. Otherwise the biggest challenge in recovery has been remembering not to pick of DS. He has been really good at understanding that I have an owie, but it is still hard.

  • 1. I don't know. You know why I don't know so I'm just leaving it at that. :-)

    2. I felt nauseous both times, but never got sick.

    3. I'm so stinkin' excited for you and you should be on the look out for me stalking fb to see pictures. :-D

  • I haven't had a second one yet, but with the first c/s I was thinking I got sick and nauseous from the Morphine shot they gave me, not the spinal meds.  I'm going to ask my Dr my next visit now.
