Sit ups

I have a friend who skips the sit up portion of a class we're in together because she's concerned about doing them since she's pregnant.  I just found out I'm pregnant too and wondering if there's any real risk to the baby if I do situps.  Are sit ups a no-no if you're pregnant?

Re: Sit ups

  • You're fine to keep doing them, it's actually good for you. Just be sure to prop yourself up on an incline once you are in your second tri and beyond.

  • At 16 weeks I was told not to do them laying down on my back anymore. At about 26 weeks I couldn't do them at all. Now I do planks, roman chair, and leg lifts instead.
  • You can do them until you become uncomfortable. That happened way too early for me. Only 13 wks and every time I do one I get this horrible pulling sensation in my obliques and across my upper abd.  Planks are a good alternative.
