Trying to Get Pregnant

Anyone temp with a regular digital thermometer (not BBT)?

I used to use a regular thermometer and successfully charted to avoid for 10 months and then charted to concieve DS once we were ready. I have since lost that thermometer and had to get a new one. CVS didn't have a BBT the day I went, so I just got a regular digital, but my temperature has been exactly the same (97.0) for 9 days in a row, which seems odd. One time it was 96.9, but then I took it twice more in a row and got 97 again.

I took my temp at night one time, when I knew it would definitely be higher than in the morning, just to make sure it wasn't broken, and I got 98.1, so I assume it's working fine. Just wondering how crucial a BBT is.

  • I've used a regular thermometer for 28 cycles of TTC. I've always been able to determine my O based on my temp pattern.

  • I started temping last cycle and it worked just fine for me, so I will continue to use it until it doesnt seem accurate anymore or something.  But it does sound like maybe something is up with yours though.

  • You will be fine to use a regular thermometer to TTC.  If you are having doubts about the therm you're using now then you should switch.  They're not very expensive and you are able to get a clear picture of your shifts.

  • That happened to me too. I went to RiteAid and they didn't have any BBT's so I got a regular one. This is my first cycle charting but my chart looks pretty clear to me so I don't think you should have a problem. I might add though my first few days were with a BBT but that was from Target and I think it was giving me the same results for some days. So I switched.

  • i use a regular thermometer and it works perfectly for temping. yours sounds like it might have something wrong with it though. if you get another normal therm, you'd be fine :)
  • I have used a normal thermometer now as well and it works pretty good. Personally I would probably buy a new one and use next month to compare your results for this month. It sounds like it is picking a "favorite" temp.
