I used to use a regular thermometer and successfully charted to avoid for 10 months and then charted to concieve DS once we were ready. I have since lost that thermometer and had to get a new one. CVS didn't have a BBT the day I went, so I just got a regular digital, but my temperature has been exactly the same (97.0) for 9 days in a row, which seems odd. One time it was 96.9, but then I took it twice more in a row and got 97 again.
I took my temp at night one time, when I knew it would definitely be higher than in the morning, just to make sure it wasn't broken, and I got 98.1, so I assume it's working fine. Just wondering how crucial a BBT is.
Re: Anyone temp with a regular digital thermometer (not BBT)?
I've used a regular thermometer for 28 cycles of TTC. I've always been able to determine my O based on my temp pattern.

TTC since July 2011
BFP #1: 2/15/12-Ectopic/Mtx at 6 wks
BFP #2: 10/12/12-m/c at 5 wks.
Me: MTHFR, Low AMH (1.1), High NK cells and Antiphospholipid Antibodies.
IVF with ICSI in August 2013 brought us our babies. ER-9R, 7M, 4F w/ICSI ET of 2-Grade 2 blasts.
Dx shortened cervix, PTL, and preeclampsia during pregnancy. Lots of medications and 13 weeks of bedrest, babies were born healthy at 34w4d!
That happened to me too. I went to RiteAid and they didn't have any BBT's so I got a regular one. This is my first cycle charting but my chart looks pretty clear to me so I don't think you should have a problem. I might add though my first few days were with a BBT but that was from Target and I think it was giving me the same results for some days. So I switched.
I have used a normal thermometer now as well and it works pretty good. Personally I would probably buy a new one and use next month to compare your results for this month. It sounds like it is picking a "favorite" temp.
GL!
