Austin Babies

recipe for getting your infant to poop

Step 1: Put infant in cloth diaper just after you have put all of the other cloth diapers in the wash.  Make sure the spin cycle has already started so there is no way the poopy diaper could be added to this load.

Step 2: Dress infant in your favorite outfit.  You know the one that is super cute and that you would hate to have to scrub poop out of or risk getting poop stains on it.  Better yet, dress infant in an outfit you have borrowed from a friend that they hope to get back.

Step 3: Shower and get dressed in a clean, cute outfit that you haven't worn in a while.  [Warning: this step may also induce spit up.  Plan accordingly.]

Step 4: Put infant in swing right before nap time.  Make sure all other nap inducers (swaddle blankets, play mat, etc.) are in the wash or otherwise unavailable.

If infant still has not pooped, try washing your one and only changing pad cover and putting it on the changing pad straight from the dryer.

Can you tell we are having an awesome day over here?  Miss you ladies!!

  • Borrowed outfits--especially the really nice ones--were poop-inducing for DD #1.

Ha! I've lost count of how many times I've said this.

This post reminds of Molly's first day of MDO this summer. I had dropped off Ben at the playscape with his class and was getting ready to take Molly to the nursery.

I stopped to talk to another mom and I suddenly felt something wet. Thinking she spit up, I kind of just ignored it until I got to the nursery. I went to hand her off to her teacher and yep, I got a handful of poop and saw runny poop (you know, that good, messy breast milk kind) ooze out the side of her cute romper and down my sundress.  Good times. Good times.

  • my baby had a couple particular outfits (my favorites, natch) which were particularly poop-inducing, mainly the kind that explodes out of her diaper and gets all over the outfit

Tip: if you live south, et the boppy changing pad liners at buy buy baby, they come in a 3 pack. that way you can protect your changing pad cover. For some reason, the same boppy brand ones at babies r us were of different, crappier quality
