Within the past week or so rural Ohio has been in the national news for Amish peeps maliciously cutting off beards and now wild animals on the loose. I'm so proud.
I feel bad because I heard on the radio the only way to safely get the animals is to kill them...no sedation!

This is the part I hate. They had the story on msn.com and the accompanying photo was that of a dead lion. I do believe there were zoo personnel there as well trying to safely capture some of the animals, but I don't know if they've been successful at all. Last update I saw said at least 30 animals had been killed.

This exactly!! Those poor animals did NOTHING to deserve this! It makes me sick to think about so many animals dying needlessy. Jack Hanna and the Columbus zoo have been down there since sun up attempting to get the rest of the animals (there were 50 or so escaped and 30 were killed at last count) to take them to the Columbus zoo. He said in an interview that they couldn't tranquilize at night so that is why they had to kill so many. As soon as the sun came up they began tranquilizing instead. Such a sad story... and the circumstances behind it are rather shady.
I only live about 40 minutes from there. I think it is horribly sad that the animals are having to be killed because of the owners irresponsibility, HOWEVER, if they cant be tranq they need to be killed. They do not deserve it, but the residents of that community do not need to live in fear. There is a huge wild life refuge within the town that they could have been turned over to, but if there is no way to safely capture, than they need to be killed.
