Anybody deal with this? I had some bleeding that sent me to the ER on Sunday, and they did an u/s...baby was great, but they did say that I have placenta previa - just partial, not complete thank goodness, but they suspect that is what caused the bleeding. OB confirmed it today, and I'm on pelvic rest until an u/s shows that it has resolved itself (hopefully!!!). And if it doesn't, well, I guess we go from there.
I had a textbook pregnancy with DS, with this little one I've already had two high blood pressure readings and now this. I am worried and nervous (I have anxiety issues not pregnant, so this just makes it all so much more entertaining!), and just want this baby to stay healthy and safe in there! They are keeping me on my toes already!
The funninest part of it all was that the ER doc said, "Wow, you are so calm, I just told people outside this is clearly not your first pregnancy." I think DH almost fell over. I have never been described as calm before, but at least I came across that way!
Re: placenta previa?
I know some other bumpies have had it and everything turned out well. Rest as much as you can and follow your Dr's orders!
Most placenta previa will resolve as the uterus expands. I had it with my pregnancy with DS and got the all-clear by 32 weeks. I had no bedrest and just a couple incidents of spotting. The perk was I got a lot of ultrasounds. In the event that it did not resolve, a c-section would be necessary, but cross that bridge when you come to it.
I delivered my first in mid-september and had complete, central placenta previa that did not resolve, so I am sort of the worst-case scenario... but, I didn't have any bleeding or other complications. I attribute that to the fact that it was caught early, during the 20 week ultrasound, and from that point on it was no sex, no exercise, no travel. I took it easy and had a scheduled c-section at 37 weeks and 2 days... baby is now 4.5 weeks old and doing great. Well, he's a little grumpy and we're a little exhausted, but otherwise great.
Just take it easy and try not to stress too much... like others said, partial previas almost always move and even if it doesn't there's a very good chance it will not cause additional issues. Worst case is probably a scheduled c-section which was not bad at all for me. Good luck!
ETA - I was a stress case the whole time and convinced I was going to be on bedrest by 28 weeks but in the end I didn't have any bedrest or really any issues at all besides heightened anxiety.
