It was the day after Christmas (meant a lot to me--that was my paternal grandparents wedding anniversary). I just woke up (I was visiting at his apt that weekend), DH just came back from food shopping. He had the majority of the bags in the kitchen, so I started to put groceries away. He came in from locking up the car. He asked if I could come into the living room to look at something. I huffed (because putting away groceries is sooo important, lol), walked into the dining room & there he was down on one knee with the open ring box in his hand
I even remember what I was wearing. I was wearing my "Talk nerdy to me" t-shirt, lol.
Yanno... today is 5 years -- from our first date! 10/18/06
One year and a bit later (11/2/07) I moved in with DH. I thought we were going to live in sin for a few months but he had plans. I got there and he was like "Did you see a box from Amazon came for you?" I'm like yeah. "He brings it over and says I missed something in the box." I'm totally confused, saying I got everything I ordered and he pulls out a ring box. I'm literally dumbfounded. He does the will you marry me and I'm like are you serious? YES!
DH took me to the local swanky 5-star resort to celebrate his new job, which he started that week. Afterwards, we walked around the grounds and the lake and when we got to the bridge, he kept loitering. I was actually kind of annoyed since I was cold. But he was waiting for people to stop walking by. Dropped down on one knee in the middle of the footbridge! I about had a heart attack! Surprised I didn't knock the ring out of his hand and into the water.

We love hiking! We have been going hiking occasionally (as often as we could) since we started dating. So one day we went hiking. After 7 miles we decided to eat. I was soooo hungry. After we were done, we packed everything in the backpack and I was ready to go, but my DH went down on his knees, opened a box with a ring inside. His voice was trembling, and I started crying. Of course I said yes:)
Poor guy, later he told me that he had been waiting for the right moment for about 6 months. And that ring apparently was around the house for that long and went on two trips with us and I had not managed to see it (we were living in sin for almost 2 years at that point).

Well, knew it was coming. We'd looked at rings and after all had been dating a whole FOUR MONTHS. But I figured it was coming in fall but had asked for some promise ring or something to show my conservative family when we moved in together, which was a month away. We were going on a quick cruise to Mexico so I went home to pack and get my stuff together. When I walked in, there was a huge flower arrangement with two cards. Basically he sent me on a treasure hunt all over the city to locations special to us -- location of our first date, his apartment where we had our first kiss, fav dive restaurant, fav high-end restaurant and finally back to the first date locale (a hotel where we met at the bar) to a hotel room there. All along the way I got and very sweet notes with the clues and little gifts like fake flowers, chocolates, the promise ring so figured that was it. Got up to the hotel room, read the last sappy note, went in and there was DH in a tux with Sinatra's "Way You Look Tonight" playing and spelled out in rose petals on the bed was "Will U Marry Me?" and there he was on bended knee with the ring. He did pretty good!
Love the stories!! Um, well DH (sort of) proposed twice. The first time was when we went camping, about 2 months after we started dating. We were sitting around the firepit drinking beer (yeah, classy huh!) and stargazing, and DH reaches over and passes me a ring he fashioned out of tin foil. He asked me to marry him, and promised a better ring!
Well, we made plans to wait about 2 years, finish school (we each had one year to go), and get our careers started. I already had a job offer - but there was a hiring freeze with plans to start in about 18m to 2 years from then (think of the dudes in red). We figured that would be plenty of time!
Well, two months later, we get our first oops. BFP. And DH's second proposal was, "So I guess we should get married now, huh?" He got my hand upside his head for that one. Twit.
Our 15 year anniversary is in 3 weeks. We had planned on doing a renewal in Hawaii, but we've bumped it to our 20 year, new house and baby in one year, yeah, a vacation isn't in the cards.
we went for a hike at my DH's favorite place to run. we got half way around the lake and went to hang out on a dock. he asked me there on the dock. it looked as though it was going to rain the whole time. the rain held off until we finished the hike around the lake.
DH cooked me a nice dinner one Friday night when I got home from being out of town for the week. I actually unknowingly helped, because I said "Oh, you cooked a fancy dinner, let me set up wine and candles."
After we ate, we were chatting and he said how lucky he was to have me and "That is what I told your father when I talked to him last night." Then he got down on one knee and proposed. I honestly do not remember anything he said between the bit about talking to my father and "will you marry me?"
I assume it was a hard thing for H to do since he had never been married before or even lived with anyone until he met me in his late 40s. He gave me a "commitment" ring when I was already preg. with J. When J. was 6 months old, we picked out the engagement ring together, and he put it on my finger. Then a couple of weeks later I asked him about the wedding date. He said: "Let's not set the date yet - let's enjoy being engaged first". I said that it looks like he is still not ready, took the ring off later on that night, and didn't wear it anymore. Then after a couple of months (not sure at what point he noticed) he tells me he misses the ring. I respond: "so do I but can't wear it yet". Then he tells me : "How about next summer?". I guess that must have been the actual proposal. Also, having looked at other women's engagement rings in our area, during the wedding planning he took the ring back to the store and brought back another one with bigger rock. Not very romantic I guess, but the actual wedding and what followed was much more romantic.

DH and I had been dating for almost 7 years. Mother's day weekend, I get home from work Friday night and am a little anxious because future MIL is on her way and we need to get the place neatened up a bit. DH is in the kitchen cleaning the knobs on the oven (you know, the burner dials). He acts all super proud that he's doing this and asks if he can have some ice cream as a reward. Whaaa? Now??? We're about to go to dinner, won't it spoil his appetite? He begs me to get him some ice cream (and yes, he wants me to scoop it for him, protesting that he's still busy cleaning). *sigh* So I whip out the tub of ice cream, open it up, and see this:
After a few seconds of stuttering, I remembered to say "Yes!"

We'd been dating almost 2 years and I was getting IMPATIENT. We went to Seattle (my hometown) for Christmas/New Year's and he told me don't get my hopes up because he wasn't ready to propose just yet, but that it would happen in the spring so calm down. We planned a big night out at the Space Needle, sorta cheesy, but I had never done that when I lived there and it sounded fun. An elegant five course meal and bottle of Opus One later, he proposed while the midnight fireworks show was thundering around our heads. I have no idea what he said to me, I was crying and laughing and yes, surprised! He told me later he had talked to my dad the day before, which really touched me.
My DH was a high school basketball coach in the small town we live in. His team was playing the cross town rivals who he coached the year before so both teams and fans knew us and that we had been dating for a while. During half time once all the players were back on the court, the Athletic Dean came up to me in the stands with a microphone in his hand and asks me to come out onto the court. (for some strange reason I thought he was going to make me sing the National Anthem!) I had no clue what was going on but when I turned around there was my DH at center court down on one knee with a ring! I was shocked and the entire gym went nuts!!! It was pretty cool and very unexpected.
Wow...some of you ladies have very romantic husbands.
We had been dating only about 4 months when we were in the mall one day and window shopped rings. At that point, I told DH, I would like a princess cut diamond set in white gold, someday in the not to distant future. Nothing too big or fancy.
My DH went to visit some family back in his hometown a few months later. His aunt worked at a jewelry store and helped him pick out my ring. A few days later, I joined DH, where I met his extended family for the first time. He took me on a walk around the neighbourhood and told me he bought the ring...but he didn't propose. My DH is the worst secret keeper EVER. He made me wait for my proposal. 4.5 MONTHS.
Finally, on December 21, 2008 we had tickets to the Buffalo Sabres/Philadelphia Flyers game in Buffalo. We made the 2.5 hr drive to the game, parked and went to dinner. Before the waitress brought our food, DH got down on one knee and asked. I was stunned. I thought he might propose that day, but I thought he'd wait til the game. If you know me, you know that a hockey game proposal was my dream. DH tried, but his inablility to keep a secret made it so he couldn't keep that ring in his pocket for another minute. I was only too happy to put it on. He was a great listener too, he got me not one, but three princess cut diamonds set in white gold! I still have that game ticket!

On stage at a comedy club. We had gone there after I had an excruciatingly long week at work. At one point during the show, he was gone for a while, I thought to buy tickets for the national act coming the following week. The emcee came on the stage between acts and said something about some contest or other and called our names to come to the stage. I was totally oblivous even has the guy had me take a seat on the stool, totally oblivious until DH got down on one knee and totally improv'd what he was going to say (it was a last minute decision on his part...he had the ring for more than three months and as we were leaving the house, he decided to do it that night and ran back in the house to get the ring). We've been married a little over three years now.
