Stay at Home Moms

Met a future serial killer at the park today.

Just kidding - sort of. There was a little girl who said she was 3. She started off by going around squishing all the ladybugs she could. This time of year we get hundreds of them. I told her ladybugs were nice bugs and she should leave them alone. She laughed and I kid you not said "but I like to hear them scream".

DD is just starting to get confidence to go up the steps to the tall slide and down by herself. So this kid starts calling to me "It's slippery. What would happen if I pushed her down". She meant from the opening by the top of the slide. Yikes!

And she was at the park alone at 3. Her house backed on to the park and her mom was ducking her head out every 20 min or so but still, I thought it was weird.

  • That pretty much sounds like how it used to go down at our apartment playground. One reason I'm glad we're gone from there.

  • Oh man that is disturbing!! If I had to guess I'd say someone is letting that poor girl watch horror movies. When I worked at a daycare we had a four year old girl who would say scary/inappropriate things, and we figured out that she was watching horror movies with her 16 year old brother when he babysat. So so sad. :(

  • Yeah, seriously.  The act of killing animals/bugs at a young age is a very tell-tale sign of serious mental problems.  Freaky.

  • I'm sorry I wouldn't have been able to resist. If she told me, what would happen if she pushed my child down, I probably would have told her I would push her down. I wouldn't. But some kids now a days! Ugh, just makes you want to put a foot out while they come past you. I come from a Mother who defended her children, at the playground and would tell that a child, "And you can go get your Mother! I got something for her." Haha, old school Puerto Rican from Brooklyn. My mother did not play, and always made sure I defended myself. Happy she taught me what she did, because in school I learned to be a leader and not a followerer. And did not let ANY of the mean girls try and bully me! I stood up for myself and everyone who was to shy to!
  • I think if I were that kid's mom I'd send her to the park alone too. I'd be too mortified that she was mine. If my 3 yr old said things like that, regardless if it was about a ladybug or not, I'd have him/her evaluated. Ok. That was my judgmental moment for the day.

  • Don't worry I kept DD far away from her. I am also thinking she is watching some inappropriate TV for sure! This park seems to have a lot of young kids without parents there watching. One time I had to go knocking on doors because a maybe 2 year old was there alone (she didn't talk so not sure). Her house also backed onto the park (it's a townhouse complex with park in the middle). I told that mom off.

  • This is so sad to me. She is so young and things are already really wrong. At 3 years old, if she is already showing those signs, she needs extra supervision and extra care- and sounds like she is getting the opposite.
