April 2011 Moms

how many times a day do you feed LO...

besides milk, of course.

I nurse DD about every 2-3 hours during the day and I give her about 1.5 tablespoons of baby puree from a jar for supper. (I have only done veggies so far) Then for night snack I give her rice cereal, a good tablespoon and a half. Is this enough? I feel like I should be feeding her the cereal and baby food more than I am. Thing is her doctor is away this month so we are doing her 6 month appointment when she is 7 months, and we did not discuss the feeding thing much at her 4 month check up. I am feeling a little lost here. And feel kind of bad for forgetting all of this kind of stuff from when DS was a baby 4.5 years ago!

  • DD gets 6 or 7, 4oz bottles of formula. She's not into solids yet. We're trying.

    DD: 5 yrs.

  • DS gets 5 bottles, each 6 oz. of formula and eats two servings on puree a day.  We'll probably up that soon though since he loves to eat so much.  We also sometimes give him a strawberry or watermelon in his mesh feeder.  He actually eats a lot, but is still a skinny mini.

  • DS is a beast. On top of nursing 6 times a day (plus a handful at night), he gets three solid meals a day. He gets:

    - 2oz. of formula mixed with oatmeal & 2oz. of fruit in the a.m.

    - 1oz. of pureed meat with 2oz. of veg at lunchtime

    - 1oz. of pureed meat with 2oz. of veg PLUS 1.5oz. of fruit for dinner

That's not counting the occasional apple slice, mum-mum, or other table food.

  • wow such different answers! LOL I guess let the baby take the lead huh? DD LOVES to eat. And sometimes seems like she would like to eat a little more than I give her. Perhaps we will up the feedings to 2 tablespoons of food, twice a day.
  • I offer solid foods 2-3 times a day, and let her eat as much as she's interested in.  Oatmeal (mixed with formula) and fruit for breakfast and then fruits and/or veggies for the other two.  Between the solids she gets 4-5 or so bottles with 4-6 oz each.  I really just let her take the lead and feed her whenever she seems hungry.  So far it's working because she's seems satisfied, is sleeping well, and growing.
