I'm going nuts. I'm trying to do the pick up/ put down sleep method. It's going to take forever. I worked on it for over an hour last night. Then a thunderstorn hit and it got worse. I'm just going to have a teenager in my bed. I'm convinced.
We tried this for two nights and just couldn't do it anymore. We moved on to Ferber and after only a few days our little guy is finally putting himself to sleep. Good luck with PU/PD - we just weren't strong enough to see it through - sending good vibes your way!
Pu/pd just pissed off my lo off to the point of hysterics and blue faced crying. At his 4 month appt his pediatritian suggested ferber and now he can sttn most nights and nap by himself. I also gave up on pu/pd before any results were present. Gl with whatever method you choose!

My friend just recommended this book to me.... Kim West's book entitled Goodnight, Sleep Tight. She highly recommended it. I haven't started it, or bought it.. yet. But my friend doesn't do CIO with her daughter, and says it was fantastic for them. So here's hoping! Maybe it'll help? ...to be honest, for all I know it could be the pu/pd method, I really have no clue......

Agreed. DD used to flip out when we tried PU/PD. It just didn't work for us at all!

Same here. It would make him so mad, he got into "the scary cry". Good luck, OP! (I mean that sincerely)
I have no idea what this method is, but we just did ferber (dd only had an issue going down awake at night, not with waking up) I will say that I don't wait that long, maybe at most 10 mins, but I am a softy so if she is crying usually after 5 mins I am in there, and at most I have had to go in 3 times and then she is asleep, so after 15 mins she is asleep. I like this method since you go based on what you are comfortable with in regards to crying length.
That said, I do use the pacifier, even though it is recommended against it. It isn't an issue for her and it seems she just needs it at first.
Ahh I just looked this up. My only concern would be that all the picking up might stir them too much. Like I said, I did ferber, but I also would rub her back when I was in there, for maybe 4 seconds.
To each there own. The end goal is the same: SLEEPPPPPP!
The method worked like a charm for my DS. He very much needed to be consoled. It did take longer than Ferber would have, though.
My DD? NEVER. It would never have worked for her, because once you enter the room, she is a) totally awake and b) totally mad. lol
PU/PD is a great method, but it's the longer method of sleep training. You have to decide if you want it to be a prolonged process, or if you want to commit and hit it hard so that in a few weeks or a month, things are where you want them to be. IMO, faster is better, which is probably why if I had to do it over with DS, I would have done Ferber and skipped PU/PD.
