Old Lady Names?

Does anyone like the name Phoebe? It was my grandmother's name and I think it could be cute to name my eventual daughter this, as my niece's name is Sadie...2 old lady names = very cool cousins.

However, my husband dislikes this name because he thinks of Phoebe from FRIENDS.

Thoughts? Aren't old lady names coming back in style?

  • Phoebe is a fantastic name, with so many great associations (Greek mythology, Shakespeare, the bible). It's one of my top choices for a girl, so I may be a bit biased :)

Old Lady names are definitely coming back in style.

  • Old Lady names are coming back into style, but I don't think of Phoebe as one of them...probably because my strongest association is Phoebe from friends, and she wasn't an old lady...

I don't really like the name. It has a funny sound to me.

This is one of the reasons I'm not a huge fan of the name.  It reminds me of the episode on Friends where Phoebe kept repeating her name and Christina Applegate's character asked why she kept making that funny sound, or something to that effect.

  • I don't really think of Phoebe is an old lady name. I do love it though.

I kind of like it. It is not really my style (I LOVE old lady names). I guess I don't really consider Phoebe or Sadie to be old lady names.

    And I think of Friends.

    All of this....

  • I don't think of Phoebe as an old lady name, per se.  It's not my favorite, but it's ok.  Actually, it was on our list when we were naming our dog. lol

Phoebe, Chloe and Baylie were out top three.  When we met her, she was so hyper, we named her Baylie, she's not girly enough for a super flowery name like Phoebe or Chloe lol

  • Coming from a family with many old lady names (Olivia, Eleanor, Lucille, and Kate, all under the age of 4) I think old lady names are great.

Phoebe is a GREAT name! I don't think of the show friends, actually. And by the time LO is here and named...no one in her generation will really know Friends anyway so I wouldn't worry about it!

  • I don't really consider Phoebe an old lady name at all.  And I love it!!  I do tend to think of Phoebe from Friends though, but I don't think that's a bad thing.
