Georgia Babies

Driving long distance while 7 months pregnant

Hi there. I'm in NYC and driving to Georgia this weekend. We're of course splitting up the drive. But I'm fairly uncomfortable when not doing the Rockaway ("lean back! lean back!". Which means my husband has volunteered to do most of the driving.

Any tips besides frequent stops? I need to figure out how to keep comfy and keep the baby happy.

  • Try to get your feet up if possible!  I could sit for only a hour in the car and get cankles even when my feet didn't swell normally that much during pregnancy.  Safe and comfy traveling!

  • A few weeks ago (at 33 weeks) I had to drive from Georgia to Texas (about 15 hours).  We split up the trip into 2 days (although we immediately turned right backa round, so really it was like 4 days in the car straight).

My advice - lots of fluids and lots of stops.  For part of the trip, it was just my husband and  I, and I actually found myself more comfortable in the backseat when I could prop my legs up and lean against pillows.
