Talked to Dermatologist about hairloss

I went to the dermatologist yesterday about my hair thinning so much and having a receeding hairline after having my baby.  She said that the hairloss usually starts at 3 months and plateaus at 6 months.  She said between the 6 month and year mark, hair should stop falling out so much and actually begin to regrow.  The bad thing is that she told me that I haven't reached my worst point yet and that a majority of my hairline will regrow, but will probably be thinner than the rest of my hair from now on.  I was happy to hear some of the news, but the rest made me sad.  I definitely plan to have a second baby in the near future, but I hope things won't be even worse the second time around, or even less regrowth.  Darn hormones!!!

This is not comforting!  Did she say anything about taking biotin?  Some people have recommended it to me.

  • Yikes! That's not comforting.  I'm getting an insane amount of hair falling out everyday.  Think football size clump just in the shower!

  • She didn't tell me anything that I could do. She just said it happens.  I asked her if I should cut my hair because it is long, but she said that wouldn't change anything. She said it would just seem like less hair falling out because it would be shorter, but the same amount would come out.  I'm trying not to get too stressed out because stress makes people lose more hair too, but it's hard when we see huge balls of hair in the shower.

  • I was thinking about it.

P.S. I love the pictures of your twins. Babies interacting is adorable.

  • Sorry the news isn't better, but I do find some comfort in learning I am not alone! I noticed the othe day how badly my hair has thinned at the templpes and kinda freaked out. No more pigtails for me! Lots of research told me basically the same thing your dr said. Besides making me feel unattractive, the worst part is how often I spy one of my hairs sticking out Max's mouth. Blech!

I have this too.  I wish it would thin somewhere less noticable. I'm getting mine cut and shaped at my shoulders and doing a side bang on Friday.  I just want to hide it.  I also started taking biotin.  I really hope she's wrong about the timeline..

  • My loss has finally plateaued and I too have somewhat bald temples, but there is an end in sight!! My boys will be 5 months tomorrow & I can honestly say it has decreased significantly and the hair is growing back. I have these 2 patches of hair growing back above my temples and it all just sticks out and up like crazy. I'm so glad it's coming to an end because I can't stand hair all over the place!!

  • I'm right there with you girls. My hair had just started filling in when I had DD and DS just turned 2. It does come back, just takes some time.
