Preschool toys?

Hey moms....especially those with boys older than 2! Please recommend toys for Christmas!

R is really growing past his toddler toys. He has cars and trucks (Cars, Matchbox, Monster Trucks) that are good and a few Imaginext toys but I think he needs an overhaul and more big kid toys.

I am thinking of replacing his Step 2 train table with a bigger one that has a flat top and getting a real train track. We were given the GeoTrack stuff, but I prefer something non motorized. He has a hippity hop ball that he loves, and a kitchen, some wooden puzzles, play doh, and easel.

I would like ideas that could last a few years if possible, yet my mind goes blank when I try and think of what he would like at 3-5.

Thanks!

Re: Preschool toys?

  • I think I am going to get Evan a Leap Frog reader for Christmas. Besides that I have no clue. I feel like the toys aimed for older toddlers/pre-schoolers have small pieces, which I don't want!

Evan is really into cars/trucks, planes and trains right now... but he has sooooo many!

I know for his birthday (not till May) I plan on getting him lots of outdoor sports stuff... he was really into playing t-ball, golf (playing w/ DH's spare set), bouncing the basketball etc, towards the end of the summer. I figure that is what he'll be into as he gets a little older.

  • I am really trying to gear toward arts and crafts things and we have talked about getting him a LeapFrog or something like that.  We also walkted about a Home Depot tool bench, but I am not sure if he would use it enough.  Oh and a bike :)...those are our ideas.

  • Ethan is getting a couple trucks(I actually have to return a few) a baseball bat and glove(the soft kid kind) and the rest of the peices for the chuck motorized play yard.  All he cares about is construction trucks right now.  I think that leap frog ipad looks cool but I don't know if he will use it.  He has the tag jr that he has never used.

My boss has a 3 yr old and she is getting him a DS. I can't imagine Ethan playing video games.

  • I got Claire a Vtech E.Reader.  The books that you can purchase range in recommended ages from 3 up to 7.  It may be a little old for her now but I figured it's a toy she could grow into - besides, I got it when Borders went out of business so it was 40% off.

  • What about something like MegaBlocks?

We started doing a lot of crafts at this age - playdoh, fingerpainting, stickers, crayons, etc.  Maybe an easel, and those huge coloring books?  A magnetic drawing board?
